Abstract: A method and a system convert the value of a gift card for use with a mobile device. The value of the gift card is determined from an issuer of the gift card. The value of the gift card is stored in a digital payment account in a storage device. The digital payment account stores values of gift cards from issuers. A financial transaction corresponding to the issuer of the gift card is performed on the digital payment account. The value of a first gift card from a first issuer of a first digital payment account is exchanged with the value of a second gift card from a second issuer of a second digital payment account.

Abstract: A method and system to facilitate an online promotion in a network-based marketplace. A user-provided election to participate in the online promotion is recorded on a client machine associated with a user. Responsive to a trigger event, a determination of the user-provided election as recorded on the client machine associated with the user is made. The determination causes a presentation of the online promotion if so elected.

Abstract: Example embodiments of the present disclosure include a system comprising a computer-readable storage medium storing at least one program and a computer-implemented method for providing a native selling platform. In example embodiments, an operating system of a device is configured to share information with other devices and services using native functionalities of the operating system. An indication to share an image of an item is received. A sharing user interface is presented that includes a plurality of services with which the image of the item is sharable. A selection of a publication system from the plurality of services is received. In response, a listing user interface is presented that includes fields for input of parameters used to generate a listing for the item in the image. Parameters and an indication to list the item are received and are shared with the publication system to cause the publication system to create the listing for the item.

Abstract: Example embodiments of a system and method for image-based listing of an item, using an image of multiple items, are generally described herein. In some example embodiments, an image-based listing system includes an identifying module to identify a portion of an image of multiple items, the portion of the image depicting the item; a tagging module to associate tag information with the portion of the image, the tag information being associated with the item; and a listing module to list the item, the listing of the item comprising displaying at least some tag information.

Abstract: In various example embodiments, a system and method for determining a spam publication using a spam detection system are presented. The spam detection system receives, from a device, an image of an item and an item attribute for the item. Additionally, the spam detection system extracts an image attribute based on the received image, and compares the item attribute and the image attribute. Moreover, the spam detection system calculates a confidence score based on the comparison. Furthermore, the spam detection system determines that the item attribute is incorrect based on the confidence score transgressing a predetermined threshold. In response to the determination that the item attribute is incorrect, the spam detection system causes presentation, on a display of the device, of a notification.

Abstract: Dynamic link preview generation techniques are described that overcome the challenges of conventional techniques by supporting link preview generation by a content provider system that proves the digital content via a respective network address. In one example, a content provider system, based on a request received from a service provider system, identifies a communication platform of the service provider system that is to be used to communicate the shared link. Upon identifying the communication platform, the content provider system locates customization data that describes how the link preview is to be generated for the communication platform. In response, the content provider system renders digital content available via the network address to generate the link preview.

Abstract: Systems and methods for improving an information provisioning system using a natural language conversational assistant is provided. A machine agent initiates an interactive natural language conversation with a user to provide the user with guidance on one or more products. The machine agent receives a request for information from the user, and accesses, from a product knowledge database, textual statements about features of the one or more products, whereby the textual statements are obtained by a machine-based offline knowledge extraction process that extracts the textual statements from reviews or product guides. Based on the accessed textual statements and an overall empirical utility of each of the accessed textual statements, the machine agent determines one or more statements of the accessed textual statements to convey to the user. The machine agent causes presentation of the one or more statements to the user.

Abstract: Systems and methods for neural machine translation are provided. In one example, a neural machine translation system translates text and comprises processors and a memory storing instructions that, when executed by at least one processor among the processors, cause the system to perform operations comprising, at least, obtaining a text as an input to a neural network system, supplementing the input text with meta information as an extra input to the neural network system, and delivering an output of the neural network system to a user as a translation of the input text, leveraging the meta information for translation.

Abstract: Social network initiated listings can be implemented by using keyword extraction of a social network post containing a sell code. The extracted keywords can be categorized using a machine based categorization system. The listing user account of the post creator can be identified using active session analysis. A listing is created using the listing user account. A new post that contains a URL to the listing is then programmatically published on the social network.

Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to providing supplemental content to one or more client devices requesting multimedia content. The supplemental content may be determined or selected based on the availability of one or more device channels, such as a display, speakers, or other component of the one or more client devices capable of providing an output. The supplemental content may also be selected based on one or more characteristics of the requested multimedia content, such as a genre, subject matter, or duration. Furthermore, the supplemental content may be determined or selected based on the portions of the requested multimedia content that are the most prominent or significant, such as any audio content, any video content, and/or any textual content. The supplemental content may be provided to the one or more client devices such that it is displayed before, during, or after the display of the requested multimedia content.

Abstract: In some aspects, a query for one or more items is received. The query includes a plurality of terms. It is determined that a search result candidate is semantically similar to the query based at least in part on a distance between a first vector that represents the query and a second vector that represents the search result candidate in semantic space. The first vector and the second vector can each correspond to a single vector of binary values. Based at least in part on the determining that the search result candidate is semantically similar to the query, the search result candidate may be caused to be displayed. The search result candidate can include at least a first term that has a same meaning as at least a second term of the query, and the first term and the second term may have a different structure.

Abstract: Techniques for automatically modulating a physical configuration of a reconfigurable building structure. A reconfigurable building structure may be constructed of physical elements that are movable with respect to one another to facilitate actuating the reconfigurable building structure between a plurality of different physical configurations. The physical configuration of a reconfigurable building structure may be adjusted to accommodate for physical dimensions of an item that is going to be moved into the reconfigurable building structure. For example, a spacing between two shelves may be expanded in response to an order being placed for a large item. In this way, when the item is delivered to a physical address associated with the reconfigurable building structure, various physical characteristics of the reconfigurable building structure may have already been modulated to accept the item.

Abstract: Disclosed are systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable media for assigning a Customer Lifetime Value (CLV) credit to an affiliate based engagement. Affiliate marketers are assigned a monetary CLV credit for new customers driven to an online retailer website by the affiliate. A CLV credit is a monetary award calculated based on a determined CLV for the new customer. The CLV represents an expected net profit to the online retailer that is attributed to the future relationship with the new customer. To ensure that the customer drives the expected net profit, the CLV credit is assigned to the affiliate marketer based on the measured engagement of the new customer. For example, the affiliate marketer is initially assigned only a portion of the CLV credit and then assigned additional portions when the new customer's engagement meets predetermined milestones, such as the new customer making at least one purchase per quarter.

Abstract: A system automatically maintains a plurality of client connections associated with a plurality of clients, the plurality of client connections including active and idle connections. A first server receives a request from a client of the plurality of clients to access a second server of a plurality of second servers communicatively coupled to the first server, the plurality of second servers having varying communication protocols. The first server then identifies a first communication protocol associated with the second server and activating a link between the first server and the second server using the first communication protocol.

Abstract: Storage space is reclaimed by cleaning and compacting data objects where data objects are stored by immutable storage. A storage area of which space needs to be reclaimed is identified. Active and stale data objects stored in a storage area are identified, and only active data objects are transferred to a shadow storage area from the storage area when recovering storage space. I/O operations can be fulfilled from the storage area and the shadow storage area. Compaction requests and I/O requests are throttled according to QOS parameters. Recovery of storage space does not cause a failure to meet performance requirements for any storage volume.

Abstract: Example embodiments are directed to providing a portable and interactive user interface. A search request for content regarding a product or service is received from a client device of a user. In response to receiving the search request, an interactive user interface that includes a region for displaying the content regarding the product or service and an option to create a new interactive user interface is displayed. A selection of the option to create the new interactive user interface is received. In response to receiving the selection of the option, the client device of the user is redirected to a web page of a server to create the new interactive user interface. In some embodiments, the interactive user interface comprises an interactive storefront.

Abstract: A method of enhancing a user interface of a network-based publication system based on seasonality scores associated with items featured in listings posted on the network-based publication system is disclosed. Seasonality data is generated for each of the items. The generating of the seasonality data includes identifying a season corresponding to transaction data pertaining to each of the items and storing the seasonality data in conjunction with the transaction data in a database. The season pertains to a selected user action that is to result in a presentation of a user interface on a device of the user. Seasonality scores are calculated and associated with the items featured in a subset of the listings that are candidates for inclusion in the presentation of the user interface. Relevancy scores are adjusted for each of the candidates and are incorporated into a presentation of the listings in the user interface.

Abstract: In accordance with an example embodiment, large scale category classification based on sequence semantic embedding and parallel learning is described. In one example, one or more closest matches are identified by comparison between (i) a publication semantic vector that corresponds to at least part of the publication, the publication semantic vector based on a first machine-learned model that projects the at least part of the publication into a semantic vector space, and (ii) a plurality of category vectors corresponding to respective categories from a plurality of categories.

Abstract: Provided are a system and method for providing a product delivery service in an electronic transaction using a smartphone in which delivery product discharging devices are suitably disposed in specific places of main areas such as a subway station or a bus stop and a purchaser may conveniently pick up an ordered delivery product from a delivery product discharging device previously designated by the purchaser using a smartphone of the purchaser.

Abstract: In various example embodiments, multiple workspaces have access to modify values in a graph database. The graph database can comprise a collection of entity nodes, where each entity node is connected to an identifier node and one or more state nodes. An update to an entity node can be recorded by generating a new state node to store the update and connecting the new state node to the entity node. How each workspace views the database is based, at least in part, on which state nodes are associated with each workspace. The workspaces are independent of one another, and changes made to an entity node in one workspace do not affect how another workspace views the same entity node. By managing database data for each of the workspaces using the same graph database and recording changes in state nodes in an additive manner, the computational overhead is greatly reduced and simplified.
