A ratio of the cavity height (C1, D1, E1) to a sum of the top flange width (C2, D2, E2) and the bottom flange width (C3, D3, E3) is greater than 1, is at least 1.20, or is about 1.40. The C-shaped cross-section has a moment of inertia (98, 148, 238) of greater than 0.40, greater than 0.45, or at least 0.46.

At least one of the depending flanges extends downwardly along a respective shelf-supporting beam between about 30% and about 100% of the height of the shelf-supporting beam. Another shelf unit is further disclosed where the shelves include a color that corresponds to a color-coded system for organizing the storage of items on the shelving unit. A method of organizing a shelving unit utilizing the color-coded shelf system is also disclosed.

Each row of protrusions is disposed between two adjacent rows of the through holes and each protrusion includes a through slot oriented in a column direction of the protrusion. An organizing set is further disclosed that includes the retention system and an attachment accessory configured to be selectively coupled to the planar surface of the retention system. A method of making the retention system is also disclosed.
