  • Patent number: 4148537
Abstract: A connector of the type including an aperture for receiving a circuit board includes a base retaining a row of longitudinally spaced contacts. The contacts include flexible portions adjacent one end. A camming bar is seated in the base for longitudinal sliding movement and for swinging movement about a longitudinal axis. A contact actuating member is mounted on the camming bar and is engageable with the contacts. The base and the camming bar include cam means responsive to longitudinal sliding movement of the camming bar for swinging the camming bar and the contact actuating member about the longitudinal axis. In this manner, the flexible portions of the contacts are displaced from the circuit board-receiving aperture to facilitate entry or removal of the circuit board. The base includes a socket within which the camming bar is seated, to form the longitudinal swinging axis of the camming bar.

  • Patent number: 4075759
Abstract: A high contact density connector system for an edge-mount semiconductor package or a like panel member having densely spaced contact means provided along an edge comprises two mating connector parts, each having a one piece insulator housing retaining a plurality of contacts having mating means arranged in a single row. The contacts are assembled into the insulator housings by parallel positioning a plurality of such housings and assembling a transversely positioned row of such contacts into corresponding positions of all housings.

  • Patent number: 4066319
Abstract: A termination method and apparatus for flexible flat conductor cable utilizing a contact having a pair of cable penetrating prongs for penetrating completely through a conductor of the flexible cable and a pair of biased abutment surfaces cooperable with the prongs for forming a crimp at a location remote from the penetration is disclosed. The prongs may be arranged in a manner to form a biased contact bridge therebetween after the connector has been attached to the cable. A die is employed to enforce cable penetration and bending of the prongs in a single movement lancing operation.

  • Patent number: 4045363
Abstract: Stable water-in-oil invert emulsions suitable for use as fire-resistant lubricants and as fire-resistant hydraulic fluids of improved extreme pressure (E.P.) properties are disclosed. A mixture of polyisobutenyl succinic anhydride, a member selected from the group consisting of a vegetable or animal oil or a mixture thereof, and a mono alpha-unsaturated olefin is sulfurized under heat. The sulfurized mixture is then reacted with a hydrophile on an equivalent basis. This compound is then blended with suitable base stock to form an invert emulsion with improved E.P. and anti-wear properties.

  • Patent number: 3966295
Abstract: Terminating apparatus for a flat conductor cable including a plurality of generally coplanar individual conductors. The terminating apparatus includes a generally rectangular insulation housing having an array of longitudinally extending apertures with mutually parallel and coplanar axes. A box contact assembly is positioned within each housing aperture and includes a contact tail for simultaneously providing a secure structural and electrical connection to an associated one of the plurality of individual conductors and a contact nose for providing a releasable electrical connection to another associated one of a plurality of mating conductors. Each box contact assembly is fashioned with a resilient locking lance which operates in cooperation with a recess fashioned within one wall of each aperture within the insulation housing to releasably maintain the conductor cable within the insulation housing.

  • Patent number: 3956811
Abstract: Apparatus for use in terminating flexible flat conductor cable or the like with contacts having a termination section for terminating a conductor portion thereof includes a flexible, generally U-shaped carrier strip for carrying a plurality of longitudinally spaced ones of the contacts, an anvil assembly, a ram assembly, a stripping assembly, and a guide and positioning assembly. The guide and positioning assembly comprises a support surface and adjustable positioning stops for predetermining the lateral location of the flexible flat conductor, as well as a clamp for clamping the flexible flat conductor on the support surface with its conductor elements extending over termination pockets of the anvil assembly. These pockets are defined by anvil die inserts in slots of an anvil die block and generally U-shaped, longitudinally spaced projections on pressure pads.

  • Patent number: 3932931
Abstract: A method and apparatus for direct insertion into a substrate of terminals from a flexible carrier strip releasably supporting the terminals. The strip path of travel toward a terminal removal zone and from that zone is constrained to accomodate strip flexibility and travel without binding while preventing significant strip twisting and transverse and lateral excursion. A guide block assembly establishes that path of travel in first and second channel guide sections where the terminals are deflected strip portions are respectively guided by flanges. During terminal removal, resilient jaws aid in providing uniform deflection of these strip portions. Continuous tension tends to advance the strip, and escapement fingers control strip indexing. A ram assembly, operable after indexing to directly insert the terminal, includes selected gripping inserts cooperable with differently sized terminals.
