Patent number: 7739946Abstract: An apparatus for brewing coffee, in particular for a coffee machine (1), comprises a brewing chamber (19) which is enclosed by a housing (10) and has a base (12) with an outflow (40) provided on one side and a nozzle assembly (8, 9, 11) provided on the opposite side, the nozzle assembly (8, 9, 11) comprising a nozzle (11) for supplying a fluid. The base (12) can be moved within the housing (10) and, depending on the degree to which the brewing chamber (19) is filled, the base (12) can be fixed in different positions for the brewing operation. It is thus possible for the apparatus for brewing coffee, while being of straightforward construction, to be adapted in a flexible manner to the desired quantity of coffee.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 2006Date of Patent: June 22, 2010Assignee: Eldom Rothrist AGInventor: Stephan Ruckstuhl

Patent number: 7673560Abstract: A brewing apparatus for a coffee machine, in particular for domestic use, comprises a housing (10) which encloses a brewing chamber (19) and has a nozzle assembly (8, 9, 11) arranged on one side and a base (12) with an outflow (40) for the brewed fluid arranged on an opposite side, a sealing element (20) being provided between the nozzle assembly (8, 9, 11) and housing (10). According to the invention, the sealing element (20) is retained on the nozzle assembly (8, 9, 11) such that it can be moved in the direction of the housing (10) and of the brewing chamber (19). Sealing can thus take place straightforwardly and, in addition, it is possible to configure the volume of the brewing chamber (19) in a variable manner via the sealing element (20).Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 2006Date of Patent: March 9, 2010Assignee: Eldom Rothrist AGInventor: Stephan Ruckstuhl

Patent number: 7600466Abstract: An apparatus for filling and emptying a brewing chamber (19) comprises a brewing chamber (19) which is open on one side and in which is arranged a displaceable base (12) which can be moved in relation to an opening of the brewing chamber (19) for emptying purposes. The brewing chamber (19) can be pivoted together with the base (12) such that the opening can be filled from above with portion packs. The apparatus according to the invention and the process provide for easy handling by way of preferably just one actuating element (17) for the purpose of initiating the necessary movements.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 2006Date of Patent: October 13, 2009Assignee: Eldom Rothrist AGInventor: Stephan Ruckstuhl

Publication number: 20080148952Abstract: A brewing apparatus for a coffee machine, in particular for domestic use, having a housing which encloses a brewing chamber and has a nozzle assembly arranged on one side and a base with an outflow for the brewed fluid arranged on an opposite side. A flexible sealing element is provided between the nozzle assembly and housing. The brewing chamber is arranged on one side and a fluid-fillable chamber is arranged on the opposite side. The sealing element is moveable in the direction of the brewing chamber via an increase in pressure in the chamber. The chamber is connected to a venting valve in order to relieve the sealing element of loading.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 20, 2006Publication date: June 26, 2008Applicant: Eldom Rothrist AGInventor: Stephan Ruckstuhl

Patent number: 6035762Abstract: A coffee machine, which operates with filter capsules, having a brewing unit with two brewing-chamber parts which can be displaced relative to one another and, in a closed position, form a brewing chamber for the filter capsules, one of the two brewing-chamber parts being connected to a brewing-water heater and being provided with a multiple nozzle. By virtue of the fact that the multiple nozzle in the brewing-chamber part is arranged in a movable manner and that, at least while the coffee is being prepared, is forced in the direction of the other brewing-chamber part or of the filter capsule accommodated in the brewing chamber, the extraction values are improved, the use of filter capsules of different thicknesses is possible, and the situation where the filter capsules swell up and explode when subjected to the action of superheated steam is avoided.Type: GrantFiled: June 26, 1998Date of Patent: March 14, 2000Assignee: Eldom Rothrist AGInventor: Stephan Ruckstuhl

Patent number: 5974949Abstract: The espresso machine works with filter capsules and has a scalding unit (4) with two scalding chamber parts (2, 3) which can be moved relative to each other between an opening position and a closing position. The scalding chamber parts (2, 3) enclose between them in their opening position a gap (1). The gap (1) provided for throwing in the filter capsules can be closed by a swivel-type upper lever (15) and towards the bottom also by a swivel-type lower lever (18). Preferably the machine is equipped with a drain pipe (14) the angle of which can be adjusted. The adjustability of the drain pipe (14) permits the use of larger cups whereas spilling of espresso past the cup is avoided when smaller cups are used. Preferably the drain pipe is mounted in the base of a drain tub.Type: GrantFiled: February 18, 1998Date of Patent: November 2, 1999Assignee: Eldom Rothrist AGInventors: Rene Weber, Georges Feierabend

Patent number: 5207149Abstract: Apparatuses for the preparation of different hot drinks, such as in particular espresso machines, conventionally have a multiway valve (2), which is used for supplying hot water or superheated steam produced in a water heater to different means, such as coffee filters, frothing nozzle and/or collecting vessels. As a result of high temperatures and pressures the multiway valve is exposed to considerable stresses, which in the long term cannot be withstood by known valves or only when a complicated and costly construction is adopted. In the novel apparatus the multiway valve is provided with a perforated disk (8) and a rotary control dial (9). Rods (14) for closing the distributing passages (5) are passed through the holes in the perforated disk. The distributing passages are provided in a distributing block (1) to which the multiway valve is flanged. The position of the rods is determined by the rotary position of the control dial provided with a guide link for the rods.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 1991Date of Patent: May 4, 1993Assignee: Eldom Rothrist AGInventor: Rene Weber
