  • Patent number: 6456485
Abstract: A generally rigid, plastic housing has therein a pair of chambers, one of which is larger than the other, and each of which opens at one end thereof on the front of the housing and is closed at its opposite end by an integral back wall of the housing which is secured by a pair of plastic bolts to the plane surface of a rather rigid, laminated bus bar. Secured in each of a pair of spaced socket recesses in the housing back wall is a female socket terminal, one of which extends into its associated recess from a conductor in the bus bar, and the other of which is connected to another, male terminal which is housed in the other chamber. Each of the two socket recesses opens on the larger chamber, and the sockets therein are disposed to accommodate a pair of male terminals which project from a circuit breaker releasably housed in the larger chamber. Also, an additional male terminal projects from another conductor from the bus bar into the other chamber adjacent the other terminal located therein.

  • Patent number: 6428335
Abstract: A laminated bus bar has thereon a male terminal formed either from only two electric strip conductors separated by a layer of insulation, or from two groups of conductors separated by a layer of insulation. When only two conductors are employed, one may be slightly longer and wider than the other, and the terminal section of the one conductor has a marginal edge portion thereof extending beyond the edge of the registering terminal section of the other conductor. Both terminal sections of the two conductors have exposed outer surfaces forming a male terminal disposed to be inserted releasably into a female receptacle of an electric circuit, and a dielectric insulator barrier is secured on and covers the marginal edge portion of the terminal section of the one conductor and overlies the edge of the other terminal section.

  • Patent number: 5684273
Abstract: A laminated bus bar is supported on an elongate, rigid substrate, and has at least one, thin, metal terminal projecting laterally therefrom beyond one of the side edges of the substrate. A generally rigid torque clip, which may be made from a plastic material, is mounted on the substrate, and has thereon an integral lug portion, which also projects laterally beyond the same side edge of the substrate, and in registry with the terminal. The terminal has secured thereon a PEM nut or the like, which is positioned in an opening or a recess in the lug portion to retain the terminal in a predetermined position during use. If desired the terminal may be folded around the nut, or may be provided with a tab which is secured in an opening in the lug portion of the terminal.

  • Patent number: 4517406
Abstract: One or more multilayer ceramic capacitors are positioned in a laminated bus bar so that a pair of opposed, external electrodes on each capacitor are positioned in substantially coplanar engagement with the confronting, plane surfaces of adjacent conductor strips in the bar. The two external electrodes of each capacitor are connected each to a different one of two, spaced metal termination plates, which are mounted on each capacitor to interconnect its alternate and intervening electrodes, respectively. The two termination plates of each capacitor register with spaced recesses or openings formed in each of the adjacent conductor strips to accommodate any projections on the termination plates and thereby permit coplanar engagement of said external electrodes with said conductor strips.

  • Patent number: 4430522
Abstract: A thin, dielectric layer of insulation is provided with a plurality of spaced, rectangular openings. At each side of each opening the insulation is provided with a pair of spaced, integral tab portions which project part way into the opening. Rectangularly shaped ceramic capacitors, which are slightly smaller than the rectangular openings, are placed upon the tabs after which the insulation is partially cured to secure the capacitors to the tabs. The layer of insulation is then laminated between a pair of copper strips to produce a laminated bus bar in which the capacitors are secured in the openings with their marginal edges spaced from the surrounding edge of the associated opening, except where the sides of capacitors are engaged by the tabs.

  • Patent number: 4346257
Abstract: The capacitance of the laminated bar is substantially increased by separating each pair of conductors by a thin, flexible layer of dielectric insulation which has incorporated in an opening therein a thin, wafer-like dielectric ceramic insert, which may comprise a barium titanate composition forming a thin substrate opposite sides of which are metalized, or coated with a thin layer of metal. The strip of insulation is partially cured after the placement of the insert into its openings, thereby to cause part of the resin coating on the insulation to flow into engagement with, and to fix the insert in, the opening in the insulation. This permits the partially cured insulation to be manipulated during its incorporation into a bus bar assembly where it is interposed between two strip conductors. The assembly is thereafter laminated in a dielectric jacket in such manner that opposite sides of each dielectric ceramic insert will be engaged with the confronting surfaces of adjacent conductors.
