  • Patent number: 6243393
Abstract: An apparatus and system for decoding colliding data transmissions utilizing an at will transmission protocol is disclosed. An apparatus for decoding an analog signal includes an input terminal, a data bus, a first decoder connected to the input terminal and data bus, configured to receive an analog signal, decode the signal into a first message and output the message to the data bus, a second decoder connected to the input terminal and data bus and configured to receive an analog signal, determine whether the analog signal includes a second message, decode the signal into a second message and out put the message to the data bus. A microprocessor operatively connected to the first and second decoders directs the second decoder to search for a colliding second transmission immediately after the first decoder has begun to decode a first transmission. If colliding second signal captures the receiver as the first transmission is decoded, the second decoder decodes and outputs the second message intact.

  • Patent number: 6018647
Abstract: A diversity reception system for use in narrow-band radio frequency communication systems includes a plurality of receivers that each generate a detected signal from a received radio frequency signal. The diversity reception system switches between receivers to output a high quality audio signal. The system selects a receiver having the highest quality reception at any given time by using a detected signal having the highest relative signal-to-noise ratio when the detected signals have less than a preselected threshold signal-to-noise ratio and a detected signal having the highest relative signal strength when one or more of the receivers is generating a detected signal having a signal-to-noise ratio at or above the preselected threshold signal-to-noise ratio.

  • Patent number: 5640695
Abstract: The present invention discloses an apparatus for minimizing the effects of destructive interference caused by multipath fading. An amplitude sensing module receives IF signals from a plurality of receivers and generates high speed voltage signals proportional to the logarithm of the amplitude of each of the IF signals. An analog logic module compares the high speed signals to each other to determine the high speed voltage signal having the greater level and actuates a switch to select the audio output from the receiver having the high speed signal with the higher voltage level. The switched audio output of the analog logic module is filtered by an output filter module to remove switching transients generated within the analog logic module. The filter module is programmable to accommodate various IF bandwidths and response characteristics.
