Abstract: A method for detecting entrapment of an article within a laundry washing machine. The method includes rotating the drum to a target rotation speed, determining a respective drum motor torque value for each rotation, determining a distribution characteristic value of the drum motor torque values, comparing the distribution characteristic value to a predetermined threshold value, performing a correction operation to address an entrapment condition upon determining that the distribution characteristic value is above the predetermined threshold value, and proceeding with the laundry washing cycle upon determining that the distribution characteristic value is below the predetermined threshold value.

Abstract: A laundry washing machine and a method for operating the washing machine offer ways to load a unit dose package into a compartment of the washing machine. A control unit controls the washing machine to add water to a compartment having a unit dose package. The tub is then filled with hot or cold water depending on the temperature of the water in the tub, or whether a sanitizing cycle of a washing program has been selected.

Abstract: A refrigeration appliance includes a fresh food compartment and a freezer compartment. An ice maker is disposed within the fresh food compartment for freezing water into ice pieces. The ice maker includes a removable ice bin for storing the ice pieces produced by the ice maker. A rotatable auger is positioned within the removable ice bin and configured to drive the ice pieces out of the removable ice bin via a driving force applied in a first direction. A motor is configured to rotate the auger. A drive bar is coupled to the motor and is configured to apply a resisting force to the removable ice bin along a second direction generally opposed to the first direction sufficient to counteract the driving force, wherein the resisting force is less than a removal force applied by a user to remove the removable ice bin from the ice maker.

Abstract: A refrigerator appliance includes a storage compartment having a storage drawer assembly disposed therein. The storage drawer assembly includes a carrier drawer, a lid, and a bin that may be reversibly mounted in the carrier drawer in either a first orientation or in a second orientation. The bin defines a storage space for receiving food items. The bin includes a sealing wall that encloses the storage space in the first orientation. The bin defines an access opening that grants access to the storage space in the second orientation.

Abstract: A refrigerator has an ice maker. The ice maker has a longitudinal axis; a rotatable, stretchable ice cube tray having an upper face defining a plane offset from the longitudinal axis with openings for ice cubes and a bottom surface, and the upper face and the bottom surface being parallel to the longitudinal axis, the offset being at least a depth of an ice cube; and an axially mounted, rotatable cam with a convex surface, the cam is coaxial with the longitudinal axis and positioned between the longitudinal axis and the bottom surface of the tray, so that the convex surface is engageable with the bottom surface of the tray. Ice cubes are released by rotation of the cam as the convex surface outwardly flexes the tray.

Abstract: A system for real time correction during a network device provisioning process is provided. The system includes a network device which maintains an access point connection with a user device while simultaneously attempting to establish a connection to a home network. The network device transmits status information regarding the provisioning process to the user device in real time and notifies the user of any failure in the provisioning process via an initial access point connection. The user is then given the opportunity to correct the issue without disconnecting entirely from the network device.

Abstract: In a method for controlling an ice maker, a motor rotates an ejector finger relative to an ice tray in a first direction and in a second direction opposite the first direction to discharge ice from the ice tray. When an error condition occurs, the ice maker enters a first error mode, during which an ice maker heater is turned on until the temperature of the ice tray reaches a predetermined temperature or until an ice maker heater error correction time elapses. When the ejector finger is at a home position, the motor rotates in the second direction until the ejector finger is not at the home position or for a first predetermined number of steps, whichever occurs first, and then rotates in the first direction until the ejector finger is at the home position.

Abstract: A filter base for receiving a complementary mating filter housing assembly. The filter base includes a base platform having fluid ingress and egress stanchions, and a wire harness assembly including a connector housing integral with or connected to the base platform for establishing an electrical connection between the filter base and the filter housing assembly. The wire harness assembly includes conductors extending between first and second connectors, with one or more resilient contacts provided on the second connector. The connector housing has an upper surface and an oppositely facing lower surface and is dimensioned to receive a first end portion of the one or more contacts. The contacts are flexible from a first position to a second position when a mating portion of the one or more contacts engages a mating connection surface of the filter housing assembly.

Abstract: A mechanical interlock system for a fluid filter is described herein. The mechanical interlock system may include a filter cartridge and a filter cartridge manifold for receiving the filter cartridge. The filter cartridge may include a filter body, a fluid inlet and outlet, and an integrated locking head. The integrated locking head may include a key extending radially outward from the integrated locking head and channels on an outer surface of the integrated locking head. The filter cartridge manifold may include an insertion and extraction tube for receiving the key and latching mechanisms. The insertion and extraction tube may include a primary keyway and a secondary keyway. The key, keyways, latching mechanisms, and/or channels may interact to maintain alignment of the filter cartridge during insertion of the filter cartridge into an appliance including the filter cartridge manifold.

Abstract: A cooking appliance includes a cooking chamber that defines an oven cavity and a reservoir for holding water that is accessible from within the oven cavity. The cooking appliance further includes a convection heating system, a reservoir heating system, and a control system. The convection heating system includes a convection heating element and a fan for guiding air across the convection heating element. The reservoir heating system includes at least one reservoir heating element. The control system is configured to control the convection heating system and the reservoir heating system to perform a steam cooking operation in response to a user steam-cooking input.

Abstract: A refrigerator includes: a fresh food compartment with an interior wall, an opening, and a door movable between a closed position and an open position for accessing the fresh food compartment via the opening; a cold plate mounted in the interior wall with an evaporator in contact with the cold plate; a chilled component movably mounted on the door adjacent the cold plate, the chilled component includes a heat transfer plate on a side of the chilled component for thermal communication with the cold plate, and a biaser moves the chilled component into thermal communication with the cold plate when the door is closed. The chilled component may be: an ice maker, a liquid/drink cooler, a vegetable cooler, a meat cooler, and/or a wine cooler. The biaser may include the following for moving the chilled component: a spring, an inclined plane, a pulley and weights, and/or a hydraulic piston.

Abstract: An apparatus, method, and system are provided for computing network-independent appliance control using natural language processing and user feedback. In particular, the system may comprise an intelligent front end (e.g., a communications adapter) that may interface with a user and an electronic controller configured to transmit commands to the appliance. The communications adapter may comprise an artificial intelligence module with natural language understanding and/or natural language processing capabilities, where the module may receive auditory inputs from and provide auditory feedback to the user to allow voice-based control of the appliance. The front-end system may further be configured to store voice recognition data and/or natural language processing data locally, such that the voice control may continue to function even in the absence of a network connection to other computing systems. In this way, the system may provide an effective way to provide voice-based control functionality to an appliance.

Abstract: A water dispenser for a refrigerator including a water discharge nozzle fluidly connected to a water source, a valve configured to selectively block the fluid connection, and an actuator operated to allow water to be dispensed. The water discharge nozzle is pivotally mounted to a surface of the refrigerator to pivot between a retracted position and an extended position. In the extended position, the water discharge nozzle is extended outwards beyond the surface of the refrigerator. The water discharge nozzle is biased towards one of the extended and retracted positions. The valve is configured to block the fluid connection between the water discharge nozzle and the water source when the water discharge nozzle is in the retracted position. When the water discharge nozzle pivots to the extended position, the valve is operated to enable fluid connection between the water discharge nozzle and the water source.

Abstract: There is provided a cooking appliance having an oven cavity, a fan, a heater, and a convection shroud. The fan is configured to circulate air heated by the heater to redistribute the air throughout the oven cavity. The heater configured both to heat the expelled by the fan and to generate steam from water in which the heater is immersed within a water reservoir. In described embodiments, the water reservoir is part of the convection shroud and is formed or attached together with a fan cover thereof.
