Abstract: A jumper drain for a refrigerator appliance, the jumper drain including a housing with a cavity defined therein and that is in fluid communication with a storage compartment of the refrigerator appliance. An inlet and an outlet extend from the housing and are both in fluid communication with the cavity. The outlet is disposed at a location that is offset from the inlet. A pressure equalizer opening is formed in the housing. The pressure equalizer opening is configured to provide fluid communication between the cavity and an ambient environment external to the refrigerator appliance in order to equalize a pressure differential within the refrigerator appliance.

Abstract: A method for detecting entrapment of an article between a laundry machine door and bellows, comprising: identifying a maximum startup motor torque value of the drum motor while accelerating the drum from a stop to a target rotation speed; identifying a maximum operating motor torque value while rotating the drum at the target rotation speed; comparing a difference between the maximum startup motor torque value and the maximum operating motor torque value to a predetermined torque difference value; and terminating operation if the difference exceeds the predetermined torque difference value. A laundry washing machine configured to perform the method is also provided.

Abstract: A cooking appliance includes a cooktop having at least one heating element for heating a cookware member on or to be placed on the cooktop, the at least one heating element being adjustable between a working-power level wherein the at least one heating element is energized to generate heat and a zero-power level wherein the at least one heating element is not energized. The cooking appliance further includes a temperature sensor configured to detect a temperature or rate of temperature change of a cooking element. The cooking appliance further includes a control device configured to adjust the at least one heating element from the working-power level to the zero-power level based on the temperature or rate of temperature change of the cooking element. The at least one heating element will remain at the zero-power level until a user intervenes to re-energize the at least one heating element.

Abstract: Beverage cabinets and shelf systems for beverage cabinets are described herein. The present invention may include a cabinet that includes a housing, a door attached to a front edge of the housing, and shelves suspended within the interior of the housing by rail mechanisms. One or more of the shelves may include a rear support extending approximately from left to right in a rear portion of interior of the housing, a transverse support extending approximately from left to right and offset from the front edge of the housing, and medial supports extending approximately from front to back. One or more of the medial supports may include a back portion extending from the rear support to the transverse support and a front portion extending from the transverse support to the front edge of the housing, where the front portion is removable.

Abstract: An ice maker and method of operation for a refrigeration appliance, the ice maker including an ice maker frame having an air inlet provided at a first end thereof. An ice tray is rotatably secured to the ice maker frame and configured to form ice pieces therein. An air handler includes an outlet diffuser having a central body defined by a first wall- and a radially spaced apart second wall, wherein a plurality of radially extending fins are disposed between the first and second walls. Each of the fins is spaced apart, one from the other, along an outer peripheral surface of the first wall. In an installed position, the outlet diffuser is disposed directly adjacent the air inlet at the first end of the ice maker frame. A method is provided for synchronizing an ice making cycle of an ice making unit and a defrost cycle of an evaporator.

Abstract: An appliance including a cooking cavity wrapper and a first side wall disposed laterally adjacent a first side of the cooking cavity wrapper. The first side wall includes a first hemmed shelf formed as a U-shaped bend therein. The U-shaped bend defines an inward-extending flange comprising a top leg and a bottom leg disposed in face-to-face adjacency with one another. The first hemmed shelf is adapted to support a module of the appliance above the cooking cavity wrapper.

Abstract: A household appliance is provided having a plurality of decorative external panels that provide reinforcement to and an exterior face of the appliance. At least one of the panels has a main body portion and an interior body portion integrally formed together from a common sheet of material. The interior body portion has a plurality of integral structural reinforcements formed from bending the sheet of material in the interior body portion adjacent the main body portion. The integral structural reinforcements can include a pair of opposed parallelly extending pillars each defining a columnar volume, and a pair of opposed rearwardly bent flanges each being bent to engage the pair of pillars to form a box frame adjacent to and integral with the main body portion. In preferred embodiments, the plurality of reinforced external panels together can define a chassis of the appliance.

The method includes: performing a tub loading process comprising operating supply valve(s) to provide a first volume of water through a detergent supply system and into a tub to fill the tub with wash liquid; performing a washing process comprising rotating a drum to agitate laundry in in the presence of the wash liquid; performing a static rinsing process comprising operating a pump to remove a free volume of wash liquid from the tub without rotating the drum; and performing one or more rinsing processes comprising: operating the supply valve(s) to provide a volume of clean rinse water to the tub, operating the pump to remove the rinse water from the drum, and operating the motor to spin the drum at high speed to extract rinse water from the laundry, while continuing to operate the pump.

The ice tray assembly includes an ice mold with an upper surface comprising a plurality of cavities formed therein for the ice pieces, a heater disposed on the ice mold and an ice maker refrigerant tube abutting at least one lateral side surface of the ice mold and cooling the ice mold to a temperature below 0° C. via thermal conduction and a cover having a water fill cup integrated into the cover and an outlet aligned with an inlet of the ice mold.

Abstract: A refrigerator includes a temperature-controlled drawer within a fresh food compartment. The drawer includes a temperature dampening member in thermal communication with a freezing air source and an interior or the drawer. The member is made of a thermally conductive material. In use, heat is conducted away from the interior of the drawer through the temperature dampening member in communication with the freezing air source. Thus, freezing of a foodstuff within the drawer is minimized or prevented, a temperature variance within the drawer is minimized, and humidity within the drawer is not adversely affected by dry freezing air source.

Abstract: A glide rack assembly removably installable within a cooking chamber. The assembly includes a support rack, an engagement member extending downward therefrom and being translatable between a fully retracted position and an extended position, and a locking arm. The locking arm is configured such that when the support rack is in the fully retracted position, the engagement member deflects said locking arm into an unlocked position wherein the locking arm does not cooperate with an embossment on a side wall of the cooking chamber. Further, when the support rack is translated from the fully retracted position, the engagement member does not deflect the locking arm such that the locking arm pivots to a locked position wherein the locking arm cooperates with the embossment such that the assembly is inhibited from being removed.

The door includes a first section and a second section. A locking mechanism is provided for selectively securing the second section to the first section when the second section is in a closed position relative to the first section. The locking mechanism includes a handle disposed within an elongated recess of the second section. A latch hook is engageable with the handle for selectively locking the second section in the closed position relative to the first section.

Abstract: A packaging system includes first and second caps, each cap having a main panel, first and second side panel assemblies extending from and substantially perpendicular to the main panel, a plurality of stacking protuberances, and a plurality of stacking sockets. The cap is stackable with an identical cap by mating the protuberances of the cap with the sockets of the identical cap. The packaging system further includes an elongated post; an elongated brace; and a packaging block fixed to the main panel of the first cap. The side panel assemblies of the first cap are adjacent to one another and together with the packaging block define a post socket that receives an end portion of the post and inhibits lateral movement of the post. Moreover, the side panel assemblies of the second cap are opposed to one another and respectively support first and second ends of the brace.

Abstract: A drain extension assembly for an appliance that provides fluid communication between an internal storage compartment and an exterior environment via an appliance drain that collects and transfers liquid condensate from an evaporator. The drain extension assembly includes a main body with an inlet and an outlet. The inlet is configured to be secured to the appliance drain and the outlet is configured to be secured to an extension tube discharges the liquid condensate into a drain pan. A vacuum relief system provides selective fluid communication between the main body and the exterior environment. The vacuum relief system includes a pressure relief valve provided at a wall of the main body.

Abstract: Provided is a household appliance including a user interface with a visible indicator that conveys primary operational information indicative of an operational aspect of the household appliance to a user during normal operation of the household appliance, and a controller. The controller receives a signal indicative of diagnostics data of the household appliance and causes the visible indicator to transmit a communication signal to an external device that interprets the communication signal and communicates the diagnostics data to the user. The visible indicator provides a two-way communication between the household appliance and the external device. A method for diagnosing a household appliance is also provided.

Abstract: A laundry washing machine having configured to receive a laundry cycle selection from a user interface; identify the cycle selection; upon receiving a normal laundry cycle selection, select a respective program comprising default instructions for: opening the valve one or more times to fill the drum to a default normal maintenance phase liquid level, and operating the drum motor during a normal maintenance phase to rotate the drum; and upon receiving a selection of the whites laundry cycle, select a respective program comprising default instructions for: opening the valve one or more times to fill the drum to a default whites maintenance phase liquid level, and operating the drum motor during a whites maintenance phase to cyclically rotate the drum. The default whites maintenance phase liquid level is equal to or less than the default normal maintenance phase liquid level. Methods of operating a laundry machine are also provided.
