Abstract: A grass cutting machine includes a grass cutter, a motor for driving the grass cutter, a housing for supporting the machine above ground datum, collector for collecting grass cut by cutter, and a fan for establishing a flow of air. The collector for cut grass further includes a duct for directing cut grass entrained in a stream of air from the fan. The duct has a collection mouth at an upstream end thereof and disposed in the region of the ground datum, thereof, and a downstream end of the duct connected to the collector. At least one air-outlet aperture is disposed in the region of the collection mouth, each aperture serving to direct at least a portion of the stream of air downstream from the collection mouth so as to draw into the mouth cut grass and to transport the cut grass through the duct to the collector.

Abstract: The invention relates to a safety control device for operator-presence controls, particularly for lawnmowers.The device disclosed comprises a movable control lever (20) linked to a deadman handle (28) by a pin (36) which is movable relative to a guide slot (44). The guide slot (44) has one or more recesses (46,48) which receive the pin (36) to prevent movement along the slot.When the pin (36) is in recess (46), the control lever (20) is locked into an inoperative position. Conversely, when the pin (36) is in recess (48) the control lever (20) is locked into an operative position. The control lever (20) and the deadman handle (28) are biased to assume respective inoperative positions when released.

Abstract: A driven cylinder mower comprises a mower body 101 and a grass box. An electric motor drives a cutter assembly 202, and also a turbo fan drawing air through an opening 207, both mounted in the body. The grass box has a mouth 204 over the cutters and an opening 302 which mates with the opening 207 in the mower body, and through which the turbo fan sucks air from the cutting region through the grass box. The air from the turbo fan may be discharged within a skirt on the underside of the mower body to assist in supporting the mower above the ground. This skirt, and the land wheels and rear roller, lie behind the cutters, so as to avoid flattening the grass before it reaches the cutters. The land wheels are preferably inset, so that they run only on cut grass.

The body is provided with cable grips 5, 6. Catches 10, 11 secure the body within the appliance. The body may be made as a one-piece plastic molding, comprising two portions joined by a web 7, which also acts as a spring to bias the catches into a locked position in the appliance.
