Patent number: 12143239Abstract: Disclosed are controller area network (CAN) nodes and associated methods for communicating through a CAN bus to form a set of communicatively coupled CAN nodes. A CAN node has, and is configured to monitor status of, one or both input and output devices for establishing a vehicle-carried warning system in which an event changing at least one input status causes a CAN message to be broadcast over the CAN bus to change at least one output status. Behavioral equations map input(s) to output(s), thereby resulting in desired actions. Also disclosed is a graphical user interface (GUI) for configuring the behavioral equations.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2019Date of Patent: November 12, 2024Assignee: Electronic Controls CompanyInventors: Mark W. Patent number: 10158938Abstract: A horn speaker improves ambience and sound quality by minimizing the transmission of sound diffusion and noise while maximizing the transmission of source sound generated by a speaker unit. The sound emitted by the speaker unit is collected in a seating groove and discharged through a discharge outlet of the horn speaker by integrally forming a plurality of horns in primary and secondary cases of the horn speaker enclosure. A simplified structure reduces the size of the horn speaker and difficulty associated with its assembly. The reproduction band of sound can be extended by forming a horn in a duct structure and adding sound pressure by combining it with sound emitted from the resonance of the duct in forward and backward directions. The amplitude of the resonance point is reduced in the same band and consequently advantageously reduces distortion of the sound.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 2017Date of Patent: December 18, 2018Assignees: Electronic Controls Company, Sung Ju Sound Corp.Inventors: Dong Uk Jang, Brian Olsen

Patent number: 10152739Abstract: A mobile device software app facilitates a user's identification of a product suitable for various vehicle types and operating environments. The app configures a sensor in the device to sample ambient sound or light in the vicinity of the vehicle, calculates an intensity level value for the sample, compares the value to a list of specification intensity values corresponding to vehicle accessory products, and generates a list of products having intensity values greater than that of the sampled sound or light. The app optionally provides for user selection of a product and for viewing product literature. Users can also access detailed technical installation information, listen to sound samples, and locate product vendors.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 2014Date of Patent: December 11, 2018Assignee: Electronic Controls CompanyInventors: Todd Mansfield, Norm Nguyen, William M. Patent number: 10040391Abstract: A vehicle-mountable track-lighting light bar (16) supports multiple light modules (5) in user-configurable mounting positions, each of the multiple light modules having a mounting foot (160), electrical contacts (300), and laterally extending track-attachment members (330). Multiple laterally spaced-apart electrically conductive pathways (274) are supported on a floor of each of light module mounting tracks (110, 112, 114). A light module, when its mounting foot is set in a light module mounting track, is slidable lengthwise along the track length while its electrical contacts contact associated ones of the electrically conductive pathways. A controller (276) is electrically associated with the electrically conductive pathways so as to apply electrical signals for delivery to the electrical contacts of the light module.Type: GrantFiled: November 2, 2015Date of Patent: August 7, 2018Assignee: Electronic Controls CompanyInventors: Nicholaus M. Thompson, Tony J. Tewell, Chris E. Marshall

Publication number: 20180172065Abstract: A ball-and-socket joint module (26) affixed to a mirror head (14) provides for adjusting a position of a mirror (16). The module includes a multicomponent ball assembly (86) that has an internally mounted spring (82). The spring presses two components (34, 72) of the ball assembly away from each other so that opposing surfaces (32, 70) of the ball assembly confront corresponding surfaces (62, 64) of a multicomponent socket assembly (90) when the ball assembly is nested within the socket assembly.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 24, 2017Publication date: June 21, 2018Applicant: Electronic Controls CompanyInventors: David Stewart, Andrew Sharp

Patent number: 9705597Abstract: Techniques for communicating lighting commands through a controller area network (CAN) bus of a light bar system include generating a light code message. The light code message has a metadata portion and a value portion. The metadata portion defines a purpose of value portion. The value portion controls a state of a lighting device (e.g., a keypad's LED brightness or activation of a directional light module) in the light bar system. A data field is generated by encapsulating the light code message with an ISO-TP single frame header and a message subtype. A CAN controller generates a CAN message having an extended frame format and the data field. The CAN message is then transmitted through the CAN bus.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 2016Date of Patent: July 11, 2017Assignee: Electronic Controls CompanyInventors: Mark W. Latham, William M. Cresse, Kevin David Brewster

Patent number: 9527439Abstract: A multi-frequency alarm (10) generates a narrow band noise (MFA-87, -97, 102, -107) warning of a presence of a vehicle. The alarm includes noise signal circuitry (30) generating a pseudorandom bit stream to produce a noise signal that exhibits a multi-frequency spectrum; an active low-pass filter (40) receiving the noise signal and producing a narrow band noise signal, the active low-pass filter configured to establish for the narrow band noise signal spectral characteristics exhibiting a high-frequency noise signal magnitude roll-off that attenuates frequencies greater than 4 kHz; an audio amplifier (50) producing an amplified narrow band noise signal; and an audio speaker (60) responsive to the amplified narrow band noise signal and configured to emit narrow band noise sound derived from the narrow band noise signal.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 2013Date of Patent: December 27, 2016Assignee: Electronic Controls CompanyInventor: Grant Juel
