Abstract: A method and system for distributing an electronic publication allows the distribution of customized publications, including customized advertising, customized content, or both. In accordance with the method for distributing an electronic publication, an electronic publication is retrieved from storage. The electronic publication is delivered to the consumer by electronically sending the electronic publication to the consumer's electronic mail address. In accordance with another aspect of the invention, the electronic publication may include customized advertising. A consumer profile associated with the consumer is stored in a database and comprises a plurality of profile data items. A database of content items and advertising items is created, including at least some targeted advertising items.

In one embodiment, a non-forgeable object class is defined to include an attribute slot that can be set by an approved factory. Abstract: In one embodiment, a system for validating one or more data blocks in a document derived from another document includes one or more processors collectively operable to (1) access a number of first values in a predetermined portion of a source document; (2) apply a code-generating algorithm to the first values to generate a first code representing the first values; (3) access a number of second values in a predetermined portion of a document derived from the source document, the predetermined portion of the derived document corresponding to the predetermined portion of the source document; (4) apply the code-generating algorithm to the second values to generate a second code representing the second values. If the first code matches the second code, it can be assumed that within a predefined probability the derived document was accurately derived from the source document in that the second values match the first values.

Abstract: A system and method for electronic purchase of prepaid telephone services is provided. An initiating terminal receives input of a customer's request to purchase a specified amount of prepaid telephone services and receives input of the customer's designation of a financial account from which to electronically debit the price of such purchase. A central terminal receives these inputs from the initiating terminal, obtains authorization for the request, and transmits data to the initiating terminal for the initiating terminal to, in turn, print on a receipt and provide to the customer. This receipt is then used instead of a telephone card to obtain telephone services up to the specified amount. Such receipt may also detail instructions and an authorization number, such as a personal identification number or PIN, to initiate the pre-paid telephone service.
Abstract: A system and method for sending high fidelity sound between wireless units include the capability to receive audible sounds at a wireless unit and generate signals that represent the audible sounds. The system and method also include the capability to encode a first portion of the signals and encode a second portion of the signals.
