Abstract: An absorption modulator is provided. The absorption modulator includes a substrate, an insulation layer disposed on the substrate, and a waveguide having a P-I-N diode structure on the insulation layer. Absorptance of an intrinsic region in the P-I-N diode structure is varied when modulating light inputted to the waveguide. The absorption modulator obtains the improved characteristics, such as high speed, low power consumption, and small size, because it greatly reduces the cross-sectional area of the P-I-N diode structure.

Abstract: Provided is a method of determining an operation mode of a node in an ad hoc network. The method includes: monitoring a measured amount of residual energy of the node and comparing the measured amount of residual energy of the node with an amount of residual energy theoretically calculated for the node; identifying an amount of information in a queue included in the node; calculating a relay probability of the node by reflecting the identified amount of information in the queue and the result of comparing the measured amount of residual energy of the node with the theoretically calculated amount of residual energy for the node; and determining the operation mode of the node to be one of a relay mode and a transmission mode, based on the calculated relay probability of the node. The method enables nodes to exchange information about their respective amounts of residual energy and analyze the information without using additional resources and processes.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for detecting the collision of Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) tags. In the apparatus and method for detecting the collision of RFID tags, when a subcarrier signal from which a carrier signal has been removed by a reader ASK analog demodulation device is inputted to a baseband receiver, a peak signal for the received tag signal is generated, and useful information about the generated peak signal within a symbol section is extracted. In the case where a collision is generated because two or more tags send signals to an RFID reader at the same time when the RFID reader communicates with the tags, the RFID reader can effectively detect the collision between the tags.

Abstract: Provided are a method and apparatus for measuring a time delay in an envelope elimination and restoration (EER) transmitter. A method of measuring a time delay in an EER transmitter includes receiving a modulated sinusoidal signal and distributing the modulated sinusoidal signal to be transmitted through transmission lines separated from each other, extracting an amplitude modulation signal and a phase modulation signal from the modulated sinusoidal signal, and detecting envelops of the amplitude and phase modulation signals and determining a difference in time between the amplitude and phase modulation signals. In the EER transmitter, to measure a time delay between input and output signals, time delays of paths of amplitude and phase modulation signals of the input signal are compared, thereby determining a difference in time between the amplitude and phase modulation signals.

Abstract: In a method for deciding an unregistered macrocell user equipment (MUE) adjacent to a femtocell base station (home evolved node B; HeNB), a macrocell base station (macro evolved node B; MeNB) decides occurrence of an unregistered MUE influenced by interference from a HeNB among MUEs. The MeNB requests an adjacent HeNB to transmit system information (SI) of the adjacent HeNB of which interference has influence on the unregistered MUE, and the unregistered MUE searches for the SI of the adjacent HeNB and transmits the searched SI to the MeNB, when it is decided that the unregistered MUE has occurred. The MeNB informs the adjacent HeNB of existence of the unregistered MUE using a closed subscriber group identifier (CSG ID) of the SI of the adjacent HeNB, transmitted from the unregistered MUE.
