  • Patent number: 4142085
Abstract: A method for butt welding a pair of vertically disposed tubular members having a wall thickness of more than 12 mm in end-to-end relationship by multi-pass shielded arc welding with a consumable electrode, comprising the steps of preparing the opposed edges of the tubular members by forming a root face the width of which being in the range of 0.5 mm to 3.0 mm and beveling the edges adjacent to the root face to a bevel angle in the range of 40.degree. to 50.degree., coaxially aligning said tubular members so that the gap between the root faces is not larger than 1.5 mm, performing a root pass by continuously feeding an electrode having a diameter not larger than about 1.

  • Patent number: 4110514
Abstract: A weld metal deposit which is not subject to solidification cracks and which is highly wear-resistant, also to the hot wear to which hot forming tools are subjected is disclosed. The weld metal deposit consists essentially of an air-hardening alloy steel containing 0.55% to 2.0% carbon, 0.2% to 4.0% silicon, 0.2% to 3.0% manganese, 4.0% to 6.5% chromium, 2.5% to 15.0% columbium, 0% to 3.5% strong carbide formers other than columbium, 0% to 0.5% nickel, and the remainder iron with or without incidental impurities. The contents of carbon and columbium have to be in a ratio of one to another as defined by the area indicated in FIG. 1 of the accompanying drawings.

  • Patent number: 4068110
Abstract: In a plant for the manufacture of welded gratings composed of longitudinal members and crossbars welded to said longitudinal members, the crossbars are removed one at a time from a store to a retaining device capable of holding two crossbars at a predetermined horizontal spacing between each other. The pair of crossbars is discharged from said retaining device on to a carrying device arranged to carry the pair of crossbars into the welding station and deposit them on the longitudinal members there while still retaining their predetermined horizontal spacing.

  • Patent number: 4000606
Abstract: A chain making plant for the manufacture of two chains at a time by means of a series of operating stations arranged along a substantially straight course. Two conveyor units are provided, each of which successively presents a depending portion of one chain to the operating stations. Each of the conveyor units comprises a carriage running on a track extending along the course and a transverse chain conveyor supported by said carriage. A stationary supporting structure is provided outside of the middle portion of each of the tracks, said structure including a chain wheel arranged at such height and such a transverse distance with respect to the discharge end of the transverse chain conveyor as to allow a sagging portion of the chain supported at one end by the discharge end of the transverse chain conveyor and at the other end by said chain wheel to turn freely about said chain wheel.

  • Patent number: 3961154
Abstract: A direct current power supply for manual arc welding having a steeply drooping, adjustable characteristic, comprising a polyphase transformer and a polyphase rectifier system including triggered rectifier means and a control system therefor providing both welding current and welding voltage feed-back. The welding current feed-back is substantially fixed. The welding voltage feed-back is adjustable for adjustment of the slope of the characteristic.

  • Patent number: RE29400
Abstract: A direct current power supply for manual arc welding comprising a polyphase transformer, a polyphase rectifier system including triggered rectifier valves, and a control system therefor which comprises means for setting the output current level by adjustment of a reference signal, means providing negative feed-back of the output voltage and the output current, and means for adjusting the slope of the characteristic by adjustment of the proportion between the amounts of feed-back of the voltage and the current. The current level setting means and the slope adjustment means are linked with each other to provide automatically a desired correlation between the slope and the current setting.
