Abstract: The invention provides improvements in continuous ring furnaces which have sequentially arranged and communicating chambers and which are used for baking and rebaking carbon articles, wherein a movable bridge member is employed to connect a common smoke channel with a first chamber, so as to draw a portion of smoke flowing through said smoke channel and recycle the same through the furnace.

Abstract: A furnace of autoclave for heat treatment of carbon articles impregnated with a fluid medium, which is provided with a smoke-elimination system including means for supplying clean air under pressure to the closed furnace and exhausting said air through a smoke incinerator or other cleaning means, and means for supplying clean air by suction to the top of the open furnace and exhausting said air through the same cleaning means. Valves are provided to control the admission and draining off of the fluid medium and to determine the course of flow of the air in order to carry out the method of operation.
Abstract: Cathode in cells for producing aluminum by electrolysis of smelted salts thereof. The cathode comprises a block of carbon, graphite or semi-graphite, in which a current bus-bar is at least partially embedded, the bus-bar remaining fast with the block during firing or baking of the latter. The bus-bar is held rigidly fast with the block only by the action of the material comprising said block.
Abstract: This invention relates to a method and apparatus for manufacturing carbon articles such as cylindrical electrodes, by employing a continuous operation wherein the electrodes are charged into a suitable apparatus and atmosphere, heated and thereafter cooled and discharged therefrom.
