  • Patent number: 6641791
Abstract: The invention relates to the preparation of BF3 and H2SO4 of commercial grade from boron trifluoride hydrate effluents containing organic impurities. The process consists essentially in reacting the said effluent with oleum, in recovering the gaseous boron trifluoride thereby liberated and in subjecting the sulphuric acid by-product to treatment with hydrogen peroxide and to purging with air.

  • Patent number: 6572729
Abstract: Polyurethane formulations based on hydroxylated polybutadiene are catalyzed by an N-substituted imidazole derivative. This type of catalysis advantageously replaces the conventional catalysts based on mercury salt. The catalysis does not pose an environmental problem and allows a particular increase in viscosity, permitting an extended pot life and rapid setting.

  • Patent number: 6551956
Abstract: The present invention relates to a catalytic composition for the polymerization of olefins combining a number of catalytic components for the polymerization of olefins and to a process for preparing it. The catalytic component according to the invention is obtained by impregnation of a prepolymer with a solution of a catalytic component for the polymerization of olefins. The invention brings about control of the combination of different catalytic components and provides for improvement in the control of the quality of the polymers manufactured by virtue of the catalytic action of the combined catalytic components.

  • Patent number: 6123850
Abstract: The subject matter of the present invention is a process for the purification of a virtually anhydrous organic liquid other than DMSO alone, in order to decrease its content of alkali and alkaline-earth metal and metal cations, characterized in that it consists essentially in placing this organic liquid in contact with one or more cation exchange resins and in then separating from the resin(s) the purified organic liquid, said resin or at least one of said resins being a sulphonic resin in --SO.sub.3 H or --SO.sub.3 NH.sub.4 form based on a polystyrene-divinylbenzene copolymer having a divinylbenzene content of from 50 to 60% by weight, without taking the sulphonic groups into account.

  • Patent number: 6090883
Abstract: A process of manufacture of phenolic resins using calcium catalysis not comprising any filtration stage. This result is obtained by holding back the precipitation of the calcium species by the combined use of a chelatant/sequestrant and of a dispersing anionic polymer. Resins which are stable in storage and with excellent water tolerance.

  • Patent number: 5908412
Abstract: A coated non-woven material, method of making such material, and disposable absorbent hygiene article are disclosed. The coated non-woven material comprises a base layer made of a non-woven web of fibrous material and at least one layer of a thermoplastic film. The peel strength of the material is equal to or below 98.times.10.sup.-3 kN/m, as measured according to the NFT 76-112 standard, wherein the peeling angle is specified at 180.degree. and the pull speed is specified at 200 mm/mn. In one embodiment, the coated non-woven material is incorporated into a disposable diaper as a liquid-impervious backsheet.

  • Patent number: 5243007
Abstract: A process for preparing polymers and copolymers based on vinyl chloride by mass polymerization of a monomer composition based on vinyl chloride, comprising carrying out at least part of the polymerization reaction in a polymerization zone defined by an essentially spherical wall by effecting in the said polymerization zone a controlled and regulated circulation of the polymerization reaction mixture by means of a rotated blade-type turbine assembly, where the said blades pass by in the vicinity of the said wall over 10% to 60% of its surface, the reaction mixture being caused by the centrifugal force of said rotated blade-type turbine assembly to perform an at least partially ascending movement over at least part of the spherical wall and falling back, essentially under the action of gravity in the central part of the spherical polymerization zone, thus ensuring intensive mixing without dead space.
