Publication number: 20060206057Abstract: A medication dispensing apparatus that provides a mechanical advantage. During dose preparing, a nut rotating element (410) and a screw element (368) are in a first axial arrangement such that a screwing motion of the nut rotating element and screw element relative to the apparatus housing that moves the elements a first axial distance from a home position screws a nut (364) along a drive member threaded shaft (362) a second axial distance different than the first axial distance. During dose dispensing, the nut rotating element and the screw element are in a second axial arrangement, whereby a screwing motion of the screw element relative to the housing back toward the home position advances a plunger (366) in the distal direction to axially advance the nut and thereby the drive member and a fluid container piston to dispense medicine.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 9, 2004Publication date: September 14, 2006Applicant: Eli Lily and Company Patent DivisionInventors: Otto DeRuntz, Kenneth Focht, Alexander Jacobs, Elizabeth Johansen, Jared Judson

Patent number: 5562882Abstract: A flexible tube is sterilized and ready for coupling to sterile tubing in a sterile environment by steam sterilization in a closed environment in which steam pressure both inside and outside the flexible tube is the same. For this purpose, the flexible tube is coupled to a transfer cup which has door means sealingly attached at its mouth creating a chamber, which is openable when the coupling is to take place. An outlet from the transfer cup chamber thus defined allows sterilizing steam entering said chamber from the flexible tube with the door means in closed disposition to leave the transfer cup therethrough and flow around the exterior of the flexible tube at the same pressure as the steam within the tube. Once the flexible tube and transfer cup are sterilized, the flexible tube is coupled to the sterile tubing by admission of said tubing to the transfer cup chamber through the door means.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 1994Date of Patent: October 8, 1996Assignees: Eli Lily and Company, Total Process Containment LimitedInventors: David T. Patent number: 5394730Abstract: A method and apparatus for generating a vapor/gas mixture includes storing a plurality of volatile liquids to provide the vapor component of the mixture, adding predetermined amounts of the volatile liquids and a dilution gas to a container, and thereafter removing the mixture to prepare a second vapor/gas mixture. In one approach, subsequent mixtures are prepared using different volatile liquids as the vapor component. Alternatively, a portion on the first vapor/gas mixture is removed from the container and then additional volatile liquid or dilution gas are added to the container to prepare a second vapor/gas mixture including the same vapor but at a different percentage in the mixture, or including additional vapors not used in the first vapor/gas mixture.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 1993Date of Patent: March 7, 1995Assignee: Eli Lily and CompanyInventors: David Crozier, James J.
