Abstract: A process for line production of plant growth medium pots or bags with a closed bottom end includes the steps of: i) continuously folding the free end of a continuous length of water and air permeable sheet material into a sheet material tube around and beyond a free end of a growth medium feeding tube; ii) forming a first sealing in the sheet material tube; iii) filling the sheet material tube with a measured amount of growth medium; iv) forming a second sealing in the sheet material tube; v) separating the part of the sheet material tube positioned downstream from the second sealing to form a first plant growth medium pot or bag with a closed end, repeating as needed to form a plurality of plant growth medium pots or bags.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a distributor apparatus adapted for positioning individual pieces of a length of growth medium cut into pieces of suitable size into a propagation tray. The distributor apparatus comprises a plurality of distributor units configured to move between a loading position and an unloading position. Each distributor unit comprises an open-ended channel or cavity adapted for receiving a whole number of growth medium pieces. The distributor units, in a loading position, are positioned relatively to each other such that their open-ended channels or cavities are disposed in continuation to each other to form a receiving unit with an open-ended channel or cavity adapted for receiving a single length of growth medium pieces. The distributor units, when in an unloading position, are rotated, relative to their loading position, such that their open-ended channels or cavities are disposed parallel relative to each other.
Abstract: The present invention relates to the production of propagation plugs, primarily small blocks of sphagnum for the growing of cuttings and seed plants, and of the type consisting of a cylindrical block having an envelope of paper or a similar material and an associated filling of sphagnum or a corresponding substrate material. The paper is an air permeable composite sheet material comprising a) a biodegradable nonwoven sheet material; and b) a hot melt adhesive comprising at least 50% w/w of one or more biodegradable bioplastics. The hot melt adhesive is supplied to at least a part of a face of the biodegradable nonwoven sheet material.
