  • Patent number: 6644916
Abstract: Vanes of the type for directing a fluid radially are fabricated by forming the vanes integrally to a support structure made from a sacrificial material which is removed in assembly so that the vanes are supported for operative use. In one embodiment, the vanes are formed in the dams of an annular burner by preforming the vanes supported to a disk; the vanes and disk apparatus is fitted to side plates which are then brazed together and the disk portion and complementary side plate portions are removed, for defining the dam that is affixed to the liner of the annular combustor. Other configurations are contemplated that are tailored to fit the intended embodiment. The vane and support portion made from a sacrificial material constitute an apparatus of this invention.

  • Patent number: 6605928
Abstract: An electrical system for a turbine/alternator comprising a gas driven turbine and permanent magnet alternator rotating on a common shaft comprises an inverter circuit connectable either to an AC output circuit or the stator winding of the alternator. A control circuit during a startup mode switches the inverter circuit to the stator winding of the alternator and during a power out mode switches the inverter circuit to the AC output circuit. Thus, during the startup mode, the alternator functions as a motor to raise the speed of the turbine to a safe ignition speed and in the power out mode the electrical system outputs to the AC output circuit, electrical power having a frequency unrelated to the rotational speed of the alternator.

  • Patent number: 6314717
Abstract: An electricity generating system having a body (159), an annular combustor (14), a turbine (16), a compressor chamber and a compressor (102) positioned within the compressor chamber. An inlet port is in fluid communication with the compressor chamber and an exit port is in fluid communication with the turbine. A plurality of magnets (MG) is secured to the rotor (18) and a stator (22) made of mangnetically attracted material, such as iron, and having a stator winding provided in the body (159). The stator winding is positioned in close proximity to the plurality of magnets mounted to the rotor whereby rotation of the rotor (18) induces a current in the winding.

  • Patent number: 6002603
Abstract: A DC to DC converter includes a first transistor having a first power terminal connected to one side of a DC power supply and a second power terminal connected to one end of an inductor. A second transistor has a first power terminal connected to the other end of the inductor and a second power terminal connected to the other side of the DC power supply. A pair of capacitors is connected in series and defined therebetween a node which is connected to a ground potential. A third transistor has a first power terminal connected to the one end of the inductor and a second power terminal connected to one end of the pair of capacitors. A fourth transistor has a first power terminal connected to the other end of the pair of capacitors and a second power terminal connected to the other end of the inductor. Each transistor includes a diode connected between the first power terminal and the second power terminal thereof. Each diode is oriented to conduct current in a direction opposite its corresponding transistor.
