Abstract: A chemical etched die to be used in combination with a (e.g., roller) press to cut out shapes that are printed on sheet material. The die includes an outside border that surrounds an inside opening through the die. The size of the inside opening corresponds to the size of the shape to be cut. A cutting edge (i.e., blade) projects from the outside border of the die so as to surround the inside opening therethrough. The cutting edge is positioned at the interface of the outside border and the inside opening of the die whereby none of the outside border extends past the cutting edge and none of the outside border lies between the cutting edge and the inside opening. Accordingly, the cutting edge of the die will be exactly registered with the printed shape to be cut when the shape is surrounded by the outside border of the die.
Abstract: A trimmer to cut a backing on which an overlay is mounted. The trimmer includes cutting blades and a removable fence that has a stop. The fence is carried by a pair of risers that are capable of moving relative to the work surface. A rotatable lever arm is coupled to the risers by a linking cam rod. When the lever arm and linking cam rod are rotated in a first direction, the risers move upwardly from the work surface and the stop of the fence is lifted upwardly and off the work surface to create a gap that enables the backing to move past the fence to the cutting blades to be trimmed. When the lever arm and linking cam rod rotate in an opposite direction, the risers move downwardly toward the work surface, and the stop is lowered against the backing to prevent the overlay from moving to the cutting blades.
Abstract: A manually operated portable die cutting machine having a rotatable handle arm for generating a pressure necessary to cut a sheet material that is carried by a die cutting assembly and positioned between a movable upper press plate and a stationary lower press plate. A pull-out drawer is slidable outwardly from the body of the die cutting machine to enable access to a storage compartment thereof in which a variety of small articles can be transported. The rotation of a locking knob causes a corresponding rotation of a swing hook into engagement with the handle arm to prevent a rotation of the handle arm when it is desirable to carry the die cutting machine at the side of a user or to prevent use of the machine by a small child. The handle arm includes a handle having an upturned kick which prevents the user's fingers from being pinched when the handle is grasped to rotate the handle arm.
Abstract: Disclosed is a die press with a base, at least two cam members spaced from the base, an upper platen located between the base and the two cam members to define a space for a die, the upper platen being generally parallel to the base, the upper platen also being attached to the two cam members so that when the two cam members are actuated, the upper platen is moveable relative to the base, and a linkage connecting the two cam members so that the two cam members move in unison relative to each other when actuated.

Abstract: Disclosed is a die press cutting system that includes a commercial die press including a working area with a cutting height, a consumer die adapted to be located in the working area of a consumer press with a cutting height smaller than the cutting height of the commercial press, a consumer die having a steel rule height that is custom or specific to the consumer press working area, and an adapter having a thickness or height that is generally approximately equal to the difference between the height of a commercial die and the height of the consumer press die.
