Patent number: 5380014Abstract: Cylinder head gasket for sealing the sealing gap between engine block and cylinder head of a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine comprising a sealing plate with several combustion chamber orifices, combustion chamber sealing elements at the edges of the sealing plate which surround the combustion chamber orifices and a sensor element for detecting sealing gap movements, wherein for the cylinder-specific detection of the sealing gap movements perpendicular to the plane of the sealing plate which are caused by the pressure changes in the respective combustion chamber, the sealing plate is provided with several sensor elements associated with the combustion chamber orifices, the sensor elements are arranged outside of the combustion chamber sealing elements and the sensor elements belong to the following group: piezoelectric, piezoresistive and capacitive sensors as well as glass fiber light guide sensors with transmission loss which is changeable by bending the light guide axis.Type: GrantFiled: January 8, 1992Date of Patent: January 10, 1995Assignee: Elring Dichtungswerke GmbHInventor: Heinrich Schaperkotter

Patent number: 4761364Abstract: Screen printing stencil for making sealing layers of elastomer material on a flat gasket. A screen carrying a photoresist layer exhibits areas of increased height on the side with which it is made to contact the flat gasket, in order to simultaneously produce sealing layer areas of different thicknesses. To make such a screen printing stencil, its screen is first provided with a first photoresist layer in which areas are then delimited by means of adhesive tapes, following which these areas may be coated with a second photoresist layer. The desired screen printing stencil is then obtained by both photoresist layers being jointly exposed and the non-exposed areas of the photoresist material being washed out.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 1986Date of Patent: August 2, 1988Assignee: Elring Dichtungswerke GmbHInventor: Karl Schmauder

Patent number: 4720316Abstract: Method for making flat gaskets with a soft material layer on a sheet or plate-like support, comprising the following method steps:applying a soft material mass comprising fillers and a binder as soft material layer onto the support,if need be, compacting and/or drying the coated support, impregnating this flat material with impregnating agents containing polysiloxanes which may be cross-linked by means of catalysts, and, if need be, subsequently after-treating the impregnated sheet or plate by processes such as, for example, curing.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 1986Date of Patent: January 19, 1988Assignee: Elring Dichtungswerke GmbHInventor: Eugen Ruoff

Patent number: 4676514Abstract: A combined intake-exhaust gasket for internal combustion engines comprising a gasket plate which has at least one metallic intermediate layer arranged between two outer metallic layers and in which at least one exhaust-outlet opening and one intake opening adjacent thereto are provided, each of which is limited by a sealing element. In order to seal the intake opening by means of an elastomeric sealing ring but also protect this ring from the high exhaust temperatures and mechanical wear and tear, the sealing element of the intake opening has a sealing ring which is made of elastomeric material and limits this opening as well as a web-like metallic support member which is secured to the sealing ring, projects outwardly therefrom in radial direction and is inserted loosely between the outer layers of the gasket plate.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 1986Date of Patent: June 30, 1987Assignee: Elring Dichtungswerke GmbHInventors: Ulrich Beutter, Hansgeorg Gronle

Patent number: 4669740Abstract: Cylinder head for gasket comprising a gasket plate having at least two combustion chamber apertures separated from one another by a web of a gasket plate, also comprising sheet metal combustion chamber edge trims approximately C-shaped in cross section and having flanges extending approximately parallel to the plane of the gasket plate and overlapping the edge regions of the combustion chamber apertures, the flanges of the combustion chamber edge trims overlapping one another in the region of the web, at least on one side of the gasket plate, in order to increase the sealing surface pressure in the web region and so one flange forms a sheet metal shim.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 1986Date of Patent: June 2, 1987Assignee: Elring Dichtungswerke GmbHInventor: Willi Schwenkel

Patent number: 4520068Abstract: A reinforced support sheet or plate, especially for making flat gaskets or heat dampening plates is made of a sheet or plate-like support material which is covered with a vulcanizable soft material layer which contains a fiber-like and, if need be, powder-like binder material. The support material is smooth and the soft layer material is composed predominantly of a powder-like, asbestos-free mineral base material. The mineral base material may include mostly a chemically and thermally untreated material and also a chemically and thermally or only thermally treated material. A method for making such a sheet or plate is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 1983Date of Patent: May 28, 1985Assignee: Elring Dichtungswerke GmbHInventors: Horst Sommer, Hansgeorg Gronle
