  • Patent number: 6705348
Abstract: A check valve is provided and has a housing having inlet and outlet openings and comprising two essentially planar plate portions. A thin steel plate that acts as a valve is disposed between the plate portions. Under the effective pressure, the valve opens in one direction and blocks flow in the opposite direction. The valve has at least one valve tongue, and the plate portions in the valve are fixedly connected together. One of the plate portions is associated with the discharge zone and in the vicinity of the valve tongue is provided with at least one arched portion for limiting opening of the valve tongue. The other plate portion has bores through which the exhaust gas can enter under overpressure.

  • Patent number: 6371492
Abstract: Gasket with at least one sheet-metal layer which has at least one screw hole for the passage of the threaded shaft of a screw, wherein for a secure holding against loss of the screw in the screw hole the sheet-metal layer is designed such that several holding tongues integral with the sheet-metal layer project from the edge of the screw hole, define a circular core hole, the diameter of which corresponds to the core diameter of the screw thread, and are designed for engagement in the screw thread, and that at least some of the holding tongues are bent out of the plane of the sheet-metal layer in such a manner that the edge regions of the holding tongues facing the center of the hole are arranged so as to be offset relative to one another in axial direction of the screw hole in accordance with the pitch of the screw thread.

  • Patent number: 6250644
Abstract: Cylinder head gasket with a gasket plate which has several metal layers placed on top of one another, at least one combustion chamber aperture as well as at least one fluid aperture and is provided with a combustion gas sealing system around the combustion chamber aperture as well as with a fluid sealing system around the fluid aperture, wherein two external metal layers (outer layers) of the gasket plate enclose between them at least one inner metal layer (inner layer) of the gasket plate and at least one of the metal layers has at least one bead surrounding the fluid aperture; in order to be able to produce such a cylinder head gasket as simply as possible and at the same time minimize the risk of the sealing surfaces of engine block and cylinder head being impaired by the cylinder head gasket, such a cylinder head gasket is designed such that (a) the bead surrounding the fluid aperture is provided on an inner layer and the latter is such a spring-steel sheet metal layer that its bead is stressed predomina

  • Patent number: 6148516
Abstract: The invention relates to a metallic cylinder head gasket for an internal combustion engine, having a carrier plate which is arranged between cover plates. The carrier plate and cover plates are provided with passages which are commensurate with the combustion chambers of the internal combustion engine. The cover plates are provided, around each passage, with a resilient bead. Adjacent to each bead, and also extending around each passage, is a bead deformation limiter. The deformation limiters are shaped to prevent the occurrence of high edge pressures.

  • Patent number: 6053503
Abstract: Cylinder head gasket with a gasket plate having several sheet-metal layers and at least one combustion chamber aperture, wherein a first outer sheet-metal layer is provided with an annular bead which surrounds the combustion chamber aperture, projects in the direction towards an adjacent, second sheet-metal layer and abuts against the latter, and wherein to limit the deformation of the bead a metal spacer ring is attached by welding to one of the two layers radially adjacent to the bead, the spacer ring facing the other layer and surrounding the combustion chamber aperture; in order to make a simple optical examination of the quality of the welding join possible, the spacer ring is attached in a gas-tight manner to the layer supporting it by a continuous, annular laser welding seam closed upon itself and uniform except for an area of overlap, wherein the seam is doubled in the area of overlap.

  • Patent number: 5927724
Abstract: A metallic cylinder head gasket with a pair of deformation limiters for protecting each sealing bead which circumscribes a gasket opening aligned with an engine cylinder. The gasket has at least a first cover plate, which includes the resilient beads, a shim and a ring member. The edge of the combination chamber aligned opening in the shim is displaced radially outwardly from the associated bead, and the bead is thus not aligned with the shim, and a ring member overlaps the shim in an annular region adjacent the edge of the opening in the shim to define an outer deformation limiter. The ring member extends radially inward to the edge of the gasket opening and has a region of increased thickness which defines the inner deformation limiter.

  • Patent number: 5876038
Abstract: A metallic cylinder head gasket for an internal combustion engine having cylinder liners, the gasket comprising at least one cover plate which has a plurality of openings, commensurate with the combustion chambers of an internal combustion engine. The gasket has beads which extend around the openings, the beads being arranged at a distance from the edges of the openings. An annular upward extension is arranged concentrically with respect to each bead and serves as an upward extension of the combustion space and as a deformation limiter for the bead. The gasket is provided with at least one flat carrier plate. The upward extensions are formed by rings which are supported by the liner collars.

  • Patent number: 5863046
Abstract: A metallic cylinder head gasket for an internal combustion engine comprises a carrier plate sandwiched between flat cover plates, the multi-layer structure having a pattern of openings as dictated by the arrangement of engine cylinders, head mounting bolts and fluid flow passages. Resilient beads which cooperate with the carrier plate to form ring seals are formed in the cover plates and are arranged coaxially with respect to the apertures in the gasket. The beads are offset radially outwardly from the edges of the apertures and a deformation limiter is provided between each bead and the edge of the coaxial aperture, the deformation limiters being in the form of either a pair of oppositely directed, generally trapezoidal shaped deformable beads in the support plate or a single such trapezoidal shaped bead and a cooperating ring member which covers the concave side of the bead.
