Abstract: Systems and methods for searching databases using graphical user interfaces that include concept stacks are disclosed. A method includes providing for display graphical user interface comprising a query building canvas. The graphical user interface includes concept stacks that include stacked concept nodes associated with query terms that are joined with Boolean ORs. The concept stacks are connected by a conjunctive proximity connector that joins the query expressions associated with each concept stack. The graphical user interface includes a connector node that includes a graphical indication of the conjunctive proximity connector. The method further includes generating a search query to include query expressions associated with the concept stacks that are connected by the conjunctive proximity connector. The method further includes searching the database using the search query to identify the result set of documents.

  • Patent number: 9734241
Abstract: Computerized method for aggregating relevant information from court records and presenting such information in electronic reports including tables and charts. There are five types of reports that focus on cases filed by Litigant, Attorney or Law Firm, Judge, Court, and Nature of Suit. A History option also is provided, in which are grouped all reports previously run by the user in one table. The user inputs a time frame and identifies specific reporting entities. The process accepts these inputs and constructs a list of cases that meet the specified criteria. The information in the list is presented to the user as a multi-part report containing tables and charts of aggregate information of particular interest to the user. Most report sections allow for “drilldowns” that bring additional specific focus to the reports. The reports are also configurable in a variety of ways including selecting graph types and section inclusion/exclusion.

  • Patent number: 9721006
Abstract: Systems and methods for searching a document corpus and generating search queries are disclosed. A method includes providing for display a graphical user interface having two or more sections, and providing for generation of an initial search query based on locations of query terms entered into the graphical user interface. Sections of the graphical user interface indicate a query status. A revised search query based on a location of the query terms within the graphical user interface is generated following the manipulation of one or more of the query terms. Movement of a selected query term from a first section to a second section of the graphical user interface changes the query status of the selected query term from a first query status to a second query status. A search of the database is performed using the revised search query to return an updated set of electronic documents for display.

Abstract: Systems and method for generating concepts from a document corpus are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method for generating concepts from a document includes retrieving, a plurality of terms stored within a first lexicon. The method further includes, for individual terms stored within the first lexicon: determining a first frequency of the term within the document corpus, and determining a second frequency of the term within a comparison document corpus including a plurality of comparison documents, wherein the comparison document corpus is different from the document corpus. The method further includes, for individual terms within the first lexicon: determining a difference between the first frequency and the second frequency, comparing the difference between the first frequency and the second frequency to a comparison metric, and, when the difference between the first frequency and the second frequency satisfies the comparison metric, storing the term as a concept within a second lexicon.

A system includes a processing device and a storage medium in communication with the processing device. The storage medium includes programming instructions that cause the processing device to obtain a document and parse text within the document to determine whether each paragraph in the document is a fact paragraph, a discussion paragraph, or an outcome paragraph based on at least one of a heading associated with the paragraph and features of the paragraph. The storage medium further includes programming instructions that cause the processing device to extract each sentence in the fact paragraph, direct a trained sentence classifier to determine whether each sentence is a potential material fact sentence or a non-material fact sentence based on features of the sentence, and identify potential material fact sentences.

  • Publication number: 20160132479
Abstract: A computer-implemented method of annotating an electronic document may include receiving annotation information corresponding to a first electronic document file and creating annotation metadata that is associated with the annotation information. The method may further include storing the annotation information and associated annotation metadata in an annotation file that is separate from the first electronic document file, and anchoring the annotation information to a target electronic document file at an anchor location corresponding to the annotation metadata. The annotation metadata may be generated by assigning a target offset value to individual neighboring tokens defining an annotation neighborhood, wherein the target offset values correspond to positions of the neighboring tokens with respect to an annotation location within the first electronic document file.
