  • Patent number: 5657505
Abstract: Drain Cleaning Apparatus for rotating a drain cleaning snake comprises a frame and housing assembly supporting an axially displaceable clutch actuating shaft which supports a first clutch actuator for rotation relative thereto and axial displacement therewith. A second clutch actuator is coaxial with the first actuator and supported in the housing for rotation relative thereto. A radially expandable and contractible clutch is captured between the two clutch actuators for engaging and disengaging a drain cleaning snake extending therethrough. A motor drives the first clutch actuator through a transmission pulley and belt arrangement in which the belt is axially slidable relative to a pulley in response to axial displacement of the first clutch actuator relative to the second clutch actuator. The clutch and second clutch actuator are in a shroud at one end of the housing, and the axial position of the second actuator relative to the first actuator is adjustable.

  • Patent number: 5110418
Abstract: A water distiller has a steam chamber that includes a tray for containing water to be distilled. Water is conveyed from a source to the tray for distillation. A valve operates in an open position to convey water to the tray and a closed position to block the passage of water to the tray. A heating element means extends in the steam chamber for submersion in the water carried by the tray. The heating element is operable within a range of temperatures to heat the water in the tray. The heating element includes a main body portion having an axis that extends in a plane generally parallel to the water in the tray and a section havign an axis that is deflected above the axis of the main body portion. A heat sink surrounds the deflected section of the heating element means. A heat sensor detects the temperature of the heat sink. A control connects the valve and the heat sensor means. The control closes the valve when the sensed temperature of the heat sink is equal to or less than a predetermined amount.

  • Patent number: 4870527
Abstract: A ground fault detector employs a current feedback loop which makes use of a differential current sensing configuration to in essence increase the gain of the current feedback signal, thereby lowering the detector trip level when ground fault currents are present. In a preferred embodiment, ground faults are detected in a circuit having an AC-to-AC converter and a useful load by positioning a differential sensing configuration in the DC link of the AC-to-AC converter.

  • Patent number: 4674146
Abstract: A hand held portable blower/vacuum assembly includes a gasoline engine mounted on a blower housing that is interchangeably operable as a blower or vacuum unit and is symmetrically arranged for right or left hand use. A U-shaped carrying handle is secured to an upper housing enclosing the engine by means of a mounting structure that includes anti vibration elements. For eliminating the effect of both gyroscopic and centrifugal forces, the engine is arranged with the piston and crankshaft in horizontal and vertical orientations respectively, while both exhaust and cooling air are discharged from the front of the unit away from an operator so as to provide a balanced unit operable with either the right or left hand. A multi-position throttle located on the backside of the unit removed from the handle is incrementally settable for operating the unit at preselected fixed speeds.

  • Patent number: 4618810
Abstract: AC mains voltage input is directed to a bridge rectifier and converted to a DC voltage output. This DC power supplies an inverter which reconverts it to variable frequency AC output, used to drive a variable-speed AC motor.A microprocessor-based control unit generates firing pulses for SCR's in both the rectifier and inverter. It maximizes the efficiency of the rectifier by generating phase delay and sequencing data in advance of each line-to-netural zero-crossover of the AC mains voltage input; it makes the voltage and frequency of the inverter AC output both proportional to the value of the DC voltage output, enabling the system to maintain a constant volts/Hertz ratio between the AC output voltage and the AC output frequency.Appropriate fault protection circuits are included with the control unit to prevent fault conditions from damaging the system.

  • Patent number: 4567790
Abstract: A motion transmitting device having an input shaft and a concentric output shaft assembly, and an eccentrically rotated gear driven by the input shaft to provide an eccentric output. The gear has teeth which engage and subsequently disengage with independently movable meshing elements, such as pins. A pair of datum members have round holes to individually guide and limit movement of the meshing elements within predetermined limits of orbital motion relative to the datum members. The eccentric output drive of the gear is converted to rotary motion of the output shaft assembly. The input shaft and the output shaft assembly are rotatable about a common axis.

  • Patent number: 4459652
Abstract: A D.C. power supply (10, 44) having an auxiliary bridge rectifier (14, 38, 48) connected in series with a primary bridge rectifier (12, 46) is disclosed. The auxiliary bridge rectifier (14, 38, 48) "floats" above the potential of the primary bridge rectifier (12, 46) furnishing additional voltage at the D.C. power supply output (20, 22; 56, 58) whenever the A.C. mains voltage input to the main bridge rectifier (12, 46) drops below a predetermined value. In one embodiment of the present invention, a series of SCR's (26, 28) arranged in three-phase configuration perform the rectification and regulation functions of the primary bridge rectifier (12, 46) and the auxiliary bridge rectifier (14, 48). In an alternate embodiment of the present invention, paired SCR's (40) and diodes (42) are arranged in a half-controlled auxiliary bridge rectifier configuration (38). Individual firing angles for the various SCR's (26, 28, 40) are computed as a composite of several factors, including a firing delay factor .alpha..sub.

  • Patent number: 4424767
Abstract: An instant hot water dispenser has an upper plastic tank section connected to a lower brass tank section by a safety clamping arrangement which includes outturned tabs on the upper plastic tank section which interfit in notches in the brass lower tank section and a retainer ring located between the plastic tabs and outturned metal flanges on the brass tank section. An O-ring seal between the plastic upper tank and the brass tank provides a fluid seal. Various of the plumbing connections are integrally molded with the plastic top and expansion chamber cover which is separated from the main water tank by a common wall or partition. An aspirator opening in an integrally formed plastic stem in the expansion chamber cover aspirates water from the expansion chamber as incoming cold water passes the aspirator opening.

  • Patent number: H634
Abstract: A flowmeter for measuring the flow of fluids through a conduit is disclosed and includes a body having a passageway therethrough mounted in communication with a conduit. A cover is assembled to the flowmeter body and contains a flowmeter device which measures the flow of fluids in the body passageway. An O-ring is compressed between the body and cover to seal the flowmeter device relative to the body passageway, and the O-ring is also exposed to fluid pressure within the body passageway. When excessive pressure is encounterred within the flowmeter, the resistance of the O-ring to movement is overcome and the O-ring can be moved to a position enabling the excessive pressure to be vented to atmosphere. No damage to the flowmeter occurs when the pressure is relieved, and the flowmeter can be re-set on site without any need for replacement of components.
