Patent number: 9765668Abstract: A method for determining an amount of liquid removed from a tank per unit time includes discontinuously feeding the liquid to exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine by at least feeding the liquid through an injection line into the exhaust gas, measuring pressures simultaneously at least at two points in the injection line and determining an amount of liquid fed in per unit time from the measured pressures. The amount of liquid removed between a first point in time and a second point in time is further derived by integrating the amounts of liquid removed per unit time over a period of time from the first point in time to the second point in time. The method allows the precise consumption of the liquid to be calculated and the remaining amount of liquid in the tank to be additionally determined. On-board diagnosis is further possible with the method.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 2012Date of Patent: September 19, 2017Assignee: EMITEC Gesellschaft fuer Emissiontechnologie mbHInventors: Wolfgang Maus, Ludwig Wieres, Jan Hodgson, Rolf Brück

Patent number: 8720637Abstract: A honeycomb body for an exhaust-gas purification system may be used, for example, as a carrier body for catalytically acting coatings or as a filter, absorber or mixer in the exhaust system of an internal combustion engine. The honeycomb body has channels, an axial main direction, a planar front surface, a planar end surface and a circumferential surface disposed parallel to the axial main direction. The front surface and/or the end surface are disposed obliquely with respect to the axial main direction. Such a honeycomb body is advantageous, in particular, for applying reducing agent to the oblique end or front surface. A method for producing a honeycomb body, an exhaust line section and a motor vehicle are also provided.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 2011Date of Patent: May 13, 2014Assignee: EMITEC Gesellschaft fuer Emissiontechnologie mbHInventors: Ludwig Wieres, Rolf Brück, Hubertus Kotthoff

Patent number: 8158908Abstract: A device includes an electrically heatable honeycomb body, particularly for treating an exhaust gas flow of a mobile internal combustion machine. The device includes sheet metal foils forming channels and being in electrical contact with a housing. The housing has a terminal for connection to a voltage source, a plurality of contact points disposed remotely from the terminal for contacting the sheet metal foils and a respective contact conductor between the terminal and each contact point. The contact conductors have the same electrical resistance. A motor vehicle having at least one such device is also provided.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 2009Date of Patent: April 17, 2012Assignee: EMITEC Gesellschaft fuer Emissiontechnologie mbHInventors: Jörg-Roman Konieczny, Rolf Brück, Jan Hodgson

Patent number: 7563422Abstract: A method for reducing the particle and nitrogen oxide proportion in an exhaust gas flow of an internal combustion engine includes supplying a reducing agent to the exhaust gas flow, subjecting the exhaust gas flow containing the reducing agent to particle filtering, and then carrying out a selective catalytic reduction of at least a portion of the nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas flow. The method and an exhaust gas treatment unit make it possible to simultaneously reduce the proportion of particles and nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas. Ammonia, in particular, is used as the reducing agent. Regeneration of the particle filter is promoted by leading an ammonia-containing flow of gas through the particle filter. The method and device make it possible to consume less fuel with the same reaction rate and, at the same time to reduce available installation space, in comparison with existing corresponding prior art systems.Type: GrantFiled: January 7, 2008Date of Patent: July 21, 2009Assignee: Emitec Gesellschaft Fuer Emissiontechnologie mbHInventor: Eberhard Jacob

Patent number: 5751602Abstract: A method for analyzing a condition of at least one partial volume of a catalytic converter through which a gas mixture flows, includes measuring a temperature with a sensor at least at one location or in a region within a partial volume during a change of chemical and/or physical properties of the gas mixture. The location or the region and a configuration of the sensor are selected in such a way that a reaction of the measured temperature to a change of the properties of the gas mixture is at least approximately representative of a reaction of the temperature in the partial volume of the catalytic converter. Set point values are determined for the respective change in the properties of the gas mixture on the basis of a thermodynamic model while taking physical boundary conditions and properties of the partial volume into account. The reaction of the measured temperature is determined and compared with the set point values.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 1997Date of Patent: May 12, 1998Assignee: Emitec Gesellschaft Fuer Emissiontechnologie mbHInventors: Wolfgang Maus, Helmut Swars, Rolf Bruck
