Patent number: 7860734Abstract: A system and method is provided for quoting reinsurance. A web server receives electronic requests for reinsurance quotations and authenticates users generating the requests. An application server connects with the web server to formulate the quotation based upon the requests. A database connects with the application server and stores the quotation and other data (e.g., actuarial tables) used to generate the quotation. The electronic requests may include a selection of a preexisting quote within the database. A profitability analysis engine may analyze profits of the quotation, so that the customer users further receive profitability information associated with the quotation.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 2003Date of Patent: December 28, 2010Assignee: Employers Reinsurance CorporationInventors: Dhar Solanki, Gary Collier, Martin Langkjaer-Ohlenschlaeger

Patent number: 7720699Abstract: Systems and methods for use in settling mass tort claims are disclosed for determining insurance premiums for asymptomatic claimants in order to provide an insured defined monetary benefit in the event of a future emergence of critical injuries associated with exposure to injurious substances or conditions. Asymptomatic claimant risk classification data are entered for each settling claimant. Mortality and critical injury tables are determined. Durational probabilities of surviving without emergence of a covered critical injury are determined from a present date for each future insurance coverage year during the remaining life of the settling claimant. The durational probabilities are multiplied by the critical injury rates and then multiplied by the amounts of the specified monetary benefits. The premiums are then determined for a single claimant and on an aggregate basis for all claimants in any particular batch of mass tort claims settlements.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 2002Date of Patent: May 18, 2010Assignees: Employers Reinsurance Corporation, Metropolitan Life Insurance Company of New YorkInventor: John L. Patent number: 7461007Abstract: An insurance auction process comprises preliminary steps of establishing a network of participating insurers and establishing an insurance capacity for each participating insurer. Upon receipt of a request for insurance from a cedent, an underwriting analysis of the request for insurance is performed by the sponsor of the auction and underwriting report is produced. The request for insurance and the underwriting report are posted enabling participating insurers to submit bids to cover a portion of the insurance. Each bid includes a maximum percentage of insurance offered and a rate. After receiving the bids, the sponsor selects those bids which fulfill the request for insurance at an optimized rate and offers those bids, as an insurance proposal, to the cedent. The sponsor may guarantee payment of claims by the insurers, and if it does it assesses a credit risk charge to the rate charged to the cedent.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 2001Date of Patent: December 2, 2008Assignee: Employers Reinsurance CorporationInventor: Mark E. Patent number: 7296058Abstract: The invention provides for systematic email induction. Email is automatically scanned for email content. The content is then extracted and automatically loaded to a graphics database accessible from a network. The graphics database may for example be a FileNet repository. “Content” may include the written text of the email, graphic image attachments, electronic documents, and other file types. Preferably, content is associated with certain business tasks to facilitate future use of the content within automated workflow processes. Content is preferably stored within the graphics database as one or more single page TIFF files to memorialize the content for later use with the workflow processes.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 2002Date of Patent: November 13, 2007Assignee: Employers Reinsurance CorporationInventor: Robert Throop

Patent number: 7249038Abstract: A computer system and process for facilitating the administration of a facultative automatic reinsurance agreement through the generation of draft and final bordereaux. Information regarding insurance policies to be reinsured, including its terms, are entered into a database in the computer system. The terms of the insurance are compared versus reinsurance criteria which establishes the guidelines for what types of primary insurance is subject to reinsurance per the agreement. If the policy terms comply with the reinsurance criteria, information regarding the policy may be included on a draft bordereau. If the policy terms do not comply, the cedant is prompted to seek a special acceptance to allow the policy to be entitled to automatic insurance coverage.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 2001Date of Patent: July 24, 2007Assignee: Employers Reinsurance CorporationInventor: Mitchell Luedtke

Patent number: 7080020Abstract: An interactive system and method of selling reinsurance involves preliminary steps of enrolling a plurality of primary insurers or cedents to use the system, formulating reinsurance proposals to make available to the cedents through the interactive system, posting the proposals on a secure server in the system and calculating and allocating risk capacity to the proposals and cedents. Each cedent is provided secure access to a list of proposals being made available to it. Upon selection and submission of a proposal by a cedent, the system server generates an acceptance notice, transfers the information on the proposal to a listing of agreements entered into by that cedent, recalculates the available allocated capacity and withdraws from availability any proposals whose acceptance would reduce the available allocated capacity below a selected amount.Type: GrantFiled: January 4, 2000Date of Patent: July 18, 2006Assignee: Employers Reinsurance CorporationInventor: Robert Klaus
