Patent number: 5318205Abstract: A spray dispensing device is provided which can be used with non-pressurized containers. The device includes passageways for directing streams of air and liquid to a mixing chamber wherein the liquid is broken up into droplets and emitted as a fine spray through an orifice. An annular air passageway is concentrically disposed around a liquid passageway, both of which lead to the mixing chamber wherein the annular stream of air will be deflected by tapered walls of the mixing chamber to converge and impinge open the core stream of liquid, at a point in proximity to the orifice. The device may include a dip tube for the liquid which is provided with a check valve for retaining liquid at a high level in the dip tube after each spray cycle so that spraying is nearly instantaneous upon actuation.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 1992Date of Patent: June 7, 1994Assignee: Emson Research, Inc.Inventor: Henry W. Delaney, Jr.

Patent number: 5277559Abstract: A precompression pump is disclosed with a sliding inlet valve seal. In a first embodiment, the valve seal has sealing and retention surfaces which interact with sealing and retention surfaces on a bead on the inner wall of the pump chamber, to seal the pump inlet and retain the inlet seal respectively. In a second embodiment, the seal has friction tabs which engage the outer wall of the pump chamber. On the upstroke of the piston, these tabs engage a bead on the inner wall of the pump chamber, causing the tabs to rotate about a hinge, increasing the outer diameter of the seal. The result is improved frictional engagement of the seal with the inner wall, resulting in improved retention of the seal.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 1992Date of Patent: January 11, 1994Assignee: Emson Research, Inc.Inventor: Robert Schultz

Patent number: 4991746Abstract: An improved modular lotion pump for dispensing personal products such as lotions, creams, etc., and a method of assembling same is disclosed. The modular pump is formed of several subassemblies that are subsequently assembled to form the modular pump assembly. A cap having means for attachment to a container from which material is to be dispensed may be snap fit onto the modular pump. The pump includes a rotatable locking sleeve for preventing leakage even if the container is squeezed or stepped upon by a consumer and for changing the orientation of the actuator. The actuator may be rotated relative to the locking sleeve to prevent accidental dispensing.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 1989Date of Patent: February 12, 1991Assignee: Emson Research Inc.Inventor: Robert S. Patent number: 4942985Abstract: A 360.degree. valve body for use with a dispenser includes a lower section of generally cylindrical shape containing therein a central first bore for accepting a dip tube and a top, an upper section of generally cylindrical shape but of smaller diameter than the first section extending from the top, with the upper section having a central second bore therein, the first bore and second bore having a common axis, with the upper section adapted to be inserted into a dispenser. A third bore is formed in the top of the bottom part adjacent the upper section and extends to first bore in the lower section and has therein a seat for a ball check valve. An arcuate recess formed in a portion of said upper part adjacent opening is used for guiding a ball at one point and first and second posts, each having an arcuate inner surface, spaced from each other and the arcuate cutout are used for guiding said ball at two other points.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 1989Date of Patent: July 24, 1990Assignee: Emson Research Inc.Inventor: Robert S. Patent number: 4895279Abstract: An atomizing pump dispenser which includes a valve member having a flattened top so that the diameter of the sealing area in the outlet is increased substantially. A recess within the valve member is modified to provide conical ball sealing oprtions tapered at predetermined angles to provide a tight seal between the ball and the valve member. The innermost end of an inner hollow part of the valve member is a reduced diameter portion such that the initial movement of the valve member is easier. This in effect, tricks the user's finger by easing the initiation of movement of the actuator so as to give the feel of free movement. The inner part of the valve member is provided with a molded-in slotted protrusion for breaking the seal between the valve member and a flexible annular seal, thus alleviating the creation of the vacuum caused by the seal between the ball and the ball seat.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 1988Date of Patent: January 23, 1990Assignee: Emson Research Inc.Inventor: Robert S. Patent number: 4735347Abstract: A pump for use with a container of liquid material for dispensing and or atomizing the liquid material in an accurate dose. The apparatus has a movable valve member which is normally biased in a closed position. Upon actuation of the pump, a fluid pressure is caused to act upon the valve member. The ratio of the area of the valve member against which the pressure acts before and after opening of the valve member is selected to be at least 1:1.5, to cause a corresponding reduction of the force necessary to open the valve and dispense the fluid upon actuation, resulting in a full stroke and single puff each time.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 1985Date of Patent: April 5, 1988Assignee: Emson Research, Inc.Inventors: Robert S. Schultz, Louis Meshberg

Patent number: 4726386Abstract: A liquid nail polish applicator having a bottle containing a supply of nail polish and a brush applicator on the open end of the bottle. The brush is supplied with nail polish liquid internally through the brush bottle upon the removal of the center seal from the open end of the bottle and upon inverting the bottle.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 1986Date of Patent: February 23, 1988Assignee: Emson Research Inc.Inventor: Robert S. Patent number: 4284211Abstract: A container having a neck with a lip is closed by a sheet metal ferrule that has an end pressing a gasket against the end of the neck. A cylindrical part of the ferrule extends along the neck and engages the lip. Transversely arranged, outwardly extending nibs project from the ferrule nearer the end surface than to the end of the skirt to engage a cylindrical skirt portion of a cover.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 1979Date of Patent: August 18, 1981Assignee: Emson Research, Inc.Inventor: Emil Meshberg
