Abstract: A method and system for locally controlling delivery of electrical power along a distribution feeder. For a feeder segment in the distribution feeder the method includes: obtaining an actual voltage magnitude at an upstream node and at a downstream node of the feeder segment, and a real power value at the upstream node; setting a target voltage phasor at the downstream node as a value when a power flow across the feeder segment is maintained, and when equal reactive power is injected at the upstream and downstream nodes that consumes all the reactive power in the feeder segment; and adjusting operation of the at least one controllable reactive power resource so that the actual voltage magnitude at the downstream node moves towards a target voltage magnitude of the target voltage phasor.

Abstract: A first energy converter that can consume a first physical energy form of a first energy delivery network can be controlled to produce a second physical energy form of a second energy delivery network and inject the second physical energy form into the second energy delivery network. A second energy converter that can consume the second physical energy form of the second energy delivery system can be controlled to produce the first physical energy form of the first energy delivery network and inject the first physical energy form into the first energy deliver network. The controlling of the first energy converter and the controlling of the second energy converter can be coordinated. Related apparatus, systems, techniques and articles are also described.

  • Patent number: 10044188
Abstract: A method and a system for controlling grid power distribution by using a controllable real power resource at nodes on the feeder line and a tap changer in a substation on the feeder line by setting a target phasor value at each node that maintains a required power delivery to the real and reactive power resources with a defined acceptable voltage at all nodes with a feeder line loss below an allowable feeder line power loss threshold. The target phasor value is selected to use the substation tap changer less frequently as compared to the reactive power resource to provide voltage management of the feeder line, wherein the power resource is adjusted so that the actual voltage magnitude moves towards the target voltage magnitude at each node.

  • Patent number: 9762087
Abstract: An apparatus for providing Ancillary Services to an ISO controls multiple controllable resources over a network in a cost effective manner. The apparatus comprises a central server computer and multiple controllers communicative with the central server computer over a network. Each controller is located at a resource site and controls one or more resource devices. The central server computer has a memory with a program which executes the following operations: receives a services request signal from the ISO such as a Ancillary Services request, which requests a change in power consumed or supplied by the resources on the network; calculates the lowest cost means of delivering the requested Ancillary Services request; and sends setpoint control signals to the controller at each resource site where a change is needed, requesting a change in the operation of each resource device.

  • Publication number: 20140375472
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed at methods, systems, and techniques for measurements and, optionally, auditing of resource meters such as electricity meters. Each of multiple site aggregation units receive measurements from resource meters. Each of the site aggregation units generate a site aggregation digest that substantially uniquely identifies the resource measurements, stores these digests, and aggregates the resource measurements into site aggregation data that is sent to a central aggregation unit. The central aggregation unit generates a central aggregation digest that substantially uniquely identifies the site aggregation data, stores this digest, and aggregates the site aggregation data into central aggregation data that is sent to a resource provider with the central aggregation digest. When auditing is to be performed, the site and central aggregation digests can be used to verify the authenticity of the resource measurements and the site aggregation data, respectively.
