Patents Assigned to Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc.
  • Publication number: 20140145705
Abstract: A device, system and method of locating a target pipe in a pipe system utilizes an electric signal transmitter and an electrical signal detector. A pipe locator signal conductor comprises a spool and a flexible insulated electrical conductor wound around the spool. The exposed end of the conductor is fixed near an entry point in the pipe system, and the spool is fed into the pipe system such that the conductor pays off of the spool and extends at least partially through the target pipe. The signal transmitter is coupled to the exposed end of the conductor, transmitting a signal through the conductor and allowing the pipe to be located by the signal detector.

  • Publication number: 20070238398
Abstract: An apparatus for mounting a cutting tool or grinding tool in substantially perpendicular orientation with a pipe is provided. The apparatus comprises a support arm with a clamp for engaging the pipe; a pivot means on the support arm; and a tool mounting arm with a tool mount means for engaging the pivot. The clamp is positioned to grip the pipe, with the pivot means extending generally parallel to the pipe; the tool mounting arm is engaged with the support arm; then the cutting or grinding tool is mounted on the tool arm. A tool so mounted may then be swivelled in a generally arcuate path towards and away from the pipe to be cut in a plane generally perpendicular to the orientation of the pipe. A method for severing a service tee with the mounting apparatus is also provided.

  • Patent number: 6745795
Abstract: A method of sealing a pipe and a device for sealing the pipe which prevents gas leakage out of a pipe stub plugged by a stopper disposed in a tee fitting, to allow a permanent cap to be welded onto the pipe. The device comprises an expandable plug comprising a pair of plates with a sealing member disposed between the plates. The plates can be squeezed together, for example by tightening nuts onto bolts extending through the plates to compress the sealing member and cause the periphery of the sealing member to expand against the inner wall of the pipe. Stabilizing means, for example a nut having a reverse thread and a complimentary tool, is provided for stabilizing the expandable plug radially within the pipe as the plates are squeezed together. The expandable plug is inserted into the pipe stub after the bypassed section of pipe has been removed, and lodged in the pipe by squeezing the plates together to expand the sealing member against the inner wall of the pipe stub.
