Abstract: Some embodiments relate to a device for delivering shape-memory staples. The device comprises a grippable portion comprising a first actuator; and a delivery portion coupled to the grippable portion. The delivery portion comprises retention walls for retaining the staples within the delivery portion in an elastically deformed configuration and release apertures for releasing the staples to adopt a deployed configuration based on their shape memory. The delivery portion is configured to cause one end of each staple to protrude from the delivery portion in response to actuation of the first actuator. In some embodiments a striking mechanism is coupled to the grippable portion and configured to communicate a striking blow to the delivery portion.
Abstract: Some embodiments relate to an apparatus comprising an elongate flexible tube sized to be received within a tract and having a proximal end and a distal end; a drive mechanism coupled to the proximal end of the tube; and a liquid column extending from the proximal end to the distal end; wherein the drive mechanism is configured to cause movement of the liquid column within the tube to impart forward momentum to the tube and thereby promote advancement of at least the distal end of the tube within the tract when at least the distal end is received within a part of the tract.
Abstract: A device (1) which includes an elongate body (2) with a movable mass (3) arranged for sliding movement within the body (2), the element (4) being arranged to decelerate toward an end of the body (2) in order to impart forward movement thereto, via momentum transfer, and being arranged to accelerate away from said end in order to further drive the body (2) forward, again using momentum transfer.
