Publication number: 20240426719Abstract: The invention generally relates to a method for analyzing magnetic impurities and materials in lithium hydroxide monohydrate. Any magnetic materials (e.g., Cr, Fe, Co, Nd, Ni, Sm, and other rare earth elements) in the lithium hydroxide monohydrate (LHM) are recovered by a neodymium, glass-encased magnetic stir bar and then subjected to acid digestion. The digested LHM samples are analyzed using Inductively Coupled Plasma-Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES) or Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS). The inventive method provides a standardized procedure for analyzing or measuring magnetic impurities in the LHM samples to determine if the LHM end product meets a lithium-ion battery manufacturer's specifications for battery-grade lithium hydroxide monohydrate.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 21, 2024Publication date: December 26, 2024Applicant: ENERGYSOURCE MINERALS, LLCInventor: Carlos Maria Valerio

Publication number: 20200189924Abstract: This invention relates generally to a system and process for recovery of select minerals and lithium from a geothermal brine. The system and process are configured for the sequential recovery of zinc, manganese, and lithium from a Salton Sea Known Geothermal Resource Area brine. The system and process includes: 1) an impurity removal circuit; then 2) a continuous counter-current ion exchange (CCIX) circuit for selectively recovering lithium chloride from the brine flow and concentrating it using a CCIX unit; and then 3) a lithium chloride conversion circuit for converting lithium chloride to lithium carbonate or lithium hydroxide product.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 21, 2020Publication date: June 18, 2020Applicant: ENERGYSOURCE MINERALS LLCInventors: JOHN L. FEATHERSTONE, PAUL J. HANSON, MICHAEL J. GARSKA, CHARLES R. MARSTON
