    Abstract: A connection-and-protection device having two capacitively connected conductors respectively connected in use to a supply cable at one end and a load cable at the other end is provided, the connection and protection device including a connection terminal for connection to either of the supply or load cables, a pair of cable terminals for the respective capacitively connected conductors, a direct connection within the device between the connection terminal and one of the pair of cable terminals, the other of the pair cable terminals not normally being connected to the connection terminal and means for connecting the other of the pair of cable terminals to the connection terminal to protect the capacitive connection of the two conductors, if the voltage between the pair of cable terminals exceeds a threshold and event detection means comprising means for detection the voltage between the pair of cable terminals exceeding a threshold.

    Abstract: There is a power transmission system having (a) a power source, (b) one or more load(s), (c) a capacitive transmission line, and (d) an impedance management system for modifying an impedance of the capacitive transmission line between at least a first impedance and a second impedance, different from the first, without switching the capacitive transmission line between a capacitive mode and a conventional mode. The capacitive transmission line has (i) a first conductor connected to the power source but not to the one or more load(s), (ii) a second conductor connected to the one or more load(s) but not to the power source, and (iii) a dielectric material between the first conductor and the second conductor. The capacitive transmission line is optionally a capacitive cable. There is also a capacitive transmission line and an impedance management system for use in such a power transmission system.

    Abstract: A capacitive cable comprised six long, thin and narrow electrode plates or strips (101, 102, 103, 104, 105, 106). Typically, they are 5 km long, 10 cm wide and 0.5 mm thick of aluminum or copper foil. Individual ones of them are separated by 0.25 mm thick polypropylene ribbons (107) insulating the individual strips from each other in an insulating manner. The assembly of strips and ribbons is contained within an insulating sheath 108. At opposite ends (111,112), the alternate strips are cut off short and the remaining fingers (114,115) are joined together and to connection wires (116,117), typically by riveting (118). The wires are insulated and the insulating sheath extends onto the insulation of the wires, whereby the entire cable is insulated for safe contact with foreign objects between the ends.
