Abstract: A computer-implemented method for calculation and output of control pulses by a control unit having a first computing unit and a second computing unit, wherein the control pulses are output by the control unit to an internal combustion engine. The calculation of the control pulses is optimized in that the first computing unit calculates a control pulse pattern with triggering information for multiple future control pulses at a first sampling rate using prior state data of the engine, and transmits the calculated control pulse pattern to the second computing unit, that the second computing unit at a second sampling rate that is greater than the first sampling rate of the first computing unit corrects the triggering information of the control pulses that are currently to be output using current state data of the engine, and that control pulses are output to the engine based on the corrected triggering information.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are a system and method for evaluating the performance of infrastructure, in which a condition rating according to a result of a survey targeting experts is expressed as a sequentially distributed probability distribution function using a fuzzy membership function and a comprehensive performance measure score is more accurately expressed as a probability distribution function, thereby accurately evaluating a comprehensive performance measure rating. Also, a utility value is derived using a utility function and usable and functional evaluation measures for each facility of the infrastructure are collected, thereby comprehensively determining subjective performance evaluation measures of the infrastructure.

Abstract: Vision-assist devices and methods are disclosed. In one embodiment, a vision-assist device includes an image sensor for generating image data corresponding to a scene, a processor, and an auditory device. The processor is programmed to receive the image data from the image sensor, perform object recognition on the image data to determine a classification of a detected object that is present within the scene, and determine a confidence value with respect to the classification of the detected object. The confidence value is based on a confidence that the classification of the detected object matches an actual classification of the detected object. The processor further generates an auditory signal based on the confidence value. The audio device receives the auditory signal from the processor and produces an auditory message from the auditory signal. The auditory message is indicative of the classification of the detected object and the confidence value.
