  • Patent number: 9354354
Abstract: Processes of forming an irreversibly loose packed structure of particulate material useful as a photonic or phononic crystal are provided. Matrix material is infilled between particles and extends above the particles to form a particulate free matrix layer. Removing the matrix layer causes deformation of or exposes the spacing between the particles. The spaces are infilled by additional matrix material that when cured produces a supported and irreversibly loose packed crystalline structure of particles producing differing bandgaps and transmissive properties relative to the original structure. The processes provided allow for economical tuning of the transmissive properties of photonic or phononic crystals.

  • Patent number: 9355320
Abstract: A method and apparatus for tracking an object across a plurality of sequential images, where certain of the images contain motion blur. A plurality of normal templates of a clear target object image and a plurality of blur templates of the target object are generated. In the next subsequent image frame, a plurality of bounding boxes are generated of potential object tracking positions about the target object location in the preceding image frame. For each bounding box image frame, a reconstruction error is generated that one bounding box has a maximum probability that it is the object tracking result in the subsequent image frame.

  • Publication number: 20160145508
Abstract: Methods are provided for hydrotreating a feed to generate a product with a reduced or minimized aromatics content and/or an increased distillate product yield. A distillate boiling range feed having an elevated content of sulfur and/or nitrogen can be hydrotreated using at least two hydrotreating stages with intermediate separation to produce a hydrotreated distillate boiling range product with a reduced or minimized aromatics content. Additionally or alternately, a mixed metal catalyst formed from a suitable precursor can be used during the hydrotreating. A mixed metal catalyst formed from a suitable precursor can provide an unexpectedly superior activity for aromatic saturation. A still further unexpected benefic can be achieved by combining a multi-stage hydrotreating process with intermediate separation with hydrotreating in the presence of a mixed metal catalyst formed from a suitable precursor.

  • Publication number: 20160145753
Abstract: The invention concerns non-ferrous metallurgy, in particular the composition of an electrolyte for electrically obtaining aluminum by the electrolysis of fluoride melts. The electrolyte proposed contains, in % by weight: sodium fluoride 26-43, potassium fluoride up to 12, lithium fluoride up to 5, calcium fluoride 2-6, alumina 2-6, aluminum fluoride and admixtures—the remainder. The technical result is to increase the solubility of alumina in the electrolyte at a temperature of 830-930° C. In the electrolyte being applied for, the carbon and inert electrode materials are not destroyed, and the use of special methods to purify the aluminum of melt components is not required.

  • Publication number: 20160144452
Abstract: A method for detecting a subsurface defect in a workpiece undergoing processing includes directing focused heat energy from an energy point source on to the workpiece to generate a melt pool and cause a solid portion of the workpiece to emit incandescent radiation. The incandescent radiation emitted by the solid portion of the workpiece is captured and a signal based upon the color or intensity of the captured incandescent radiation is output. A processor receives the output signal and analyzes it for any variance. If any variance is detected, the region associated with the variance is determined. In this fashion, gradients in the color or intensity distribution reveal subsurface defects.
