  • Patent number: 8984742
Abstract: A three dimensional soft magnetic metal mass suitable for milling is formed wrapping soft magnetic metal ribbon into a three dimensional shape and then applying adhesive to the three dimensional shape. The adhesive permeates the three dimensional shape. The adhesive is then cured. If the soft magnetic metal mass is made as a toroid, then it could be processed into an electromechanical component. The electro-mechanical component would then be suitable for use in very high frequency electric motors.

  • Patent number: 8988278
Abstract: A radar apparatus includes a receiver having a plurality of receiver channels, each including an antenna element, a phase shifter, and a switch. The antenna element provides a signal that passes through a phase shifter to a switch. The signal may then be passed to a summing element if the switch is closed. The summing element receives signals from the receive channels, and provides a sum signal to a mixer. In phased array mode, the switches are closed and antenna controller adjusts the phase angles of the phase shifters. In DBF mode, the phase shifters are maintained at a set value, and switches are operated sequentially to provide time-multiplexed signals from the receive channels to the summing element.

  • Patent number: 8985288
Abstract: A valve for a magnetorheological fluid is formed with a duct through which the magnetorheological fluid can flow and which can be exposed to a variable magnetic field such that the flow resistance of the duct can be set using the magnetic field in the duct. The magnetic field can be lastingly generated using a magnet device that is made at least in part of magnetically hard material. The magnetization of the magnet device can be lastingly modified by a magnetic pulse of a magnetic field generation device in order to lastingly change the magnetic field in the duct and thus the flow resistance of the duct. A valve of the invention requires energy only to change settings while a specific setting can be lastingly maintained without supplying energy.

  • Patent number: 8990036
Abstract: Fault location using traveling waves in an electric power delivery system according to the embodiments herein uses line parameters that are adjusted using traveling wave reflections from known discontinuities in the electric power delivery system. The arrival times of a traveling wave and a reflection of the traveling wave from a known discontinuity may be used to adjust parameters of the electric power delivery system such as, for example, line length. The adjusted parameter can then be used to more accurately calculate the location of the fault using the traveling waves.

  • Patent number: 8985224
Abstract: An internal bidirectional tubing plug for plugging a well to prevent well fluids from passing the plug in a well conduit until the internal components of the plug are pumped out of its body. The body of the plug connects to the well's tubing string. The body holds a petal assembly consisting of several petals and a tapered cork assembly located within an opening formed by the petals. Both assemblies are sandwiched between upper and lower pistons. Hydrostatic pressure on the bottom of the plug as it is lowered into the fluid filled well holds the petals within the body. The internal components of the plug are removed from the body by applying hydraulic pressure in the upper area of the plug. This causes the plug to fail at a recess provided in the cork, resulting in the two assemblies and the pistons being forced out of the body.

  • Patent number: 8988903
Abstract: The present disclosure provides systems and methods for protecting a switch mode power supply (SMPS). An SMPS may include an input power connector, an input rectifier and filter, a transformer, an output rectifier and filter, and an output power connector. A control circuit may selectively generate a switching signal for driving the transformer based on a feedback signal and a protection signal generated by a protection circuit. The protection circuit may generate the protection signal with an asymmetric duty cycle oscillating between an enable state and an inhibit state. The protection signal may inhibit the control circuit from generating the switching signal when the protection signal is in the inhibit state. A detection circuit may receive the feedback signal and selectively force the protection signal to the enable state when the feedback signal indicates that an output voltage is too high.

  • Patent number: 8986402
Abstract: A method for manufacturing an oxygenated gasoline-blend by blending a hydrocarbon Basestock for Oxygenate Blending (BOB) with an alcohol such as ethanol to a required octane specification first blends the BOB to an octane number, (RON+MON)/2 based on the octane sensitivity (RON?MON) of the BOB and the proportion of alcohol to be added to the BOB, such that when the BOB is blended with the specification proportion of alcohol to form the oxygenated gasoline blend, this blend will have the required octane specification. The blending of the BOB with the alcohol will typically be done at a location remote from that where the BOB is blended, e.g. at the product distribution terminal after being transported from the refinery by pipeline or tank car.

  • Patent number: 8985149
Abstract: A valve device is formed with a through-channel and a field generating device. A fluid which can be influenced by a field is provided in the through-channel and the field generating device is configured to act on the field-influenced fluid in the through-channel by way of a field. At least one adjustment device is provided with which the field that is active in the through-channel can be adjusted. A portion of the cross-sectional area of the through-channel can be adjusted, the portion being exposed to a field of a specific intensity so that the through-channel can also only partly be exposed to a field of a specific intensity. Thus, the through-channel, as seen in the direction of the flow, can be divided into regions of different flow resistance, whereby characteristic curves, which were previously attained only with difficulty, are easily obtained when using the valve device in a damper, for example.

  • Publication number: 20150075690
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a novel solution for preventing pinch flats and installation flats incurred by an inner tube as a result of the wheel striking an object. Embodiments are directed to an inner tube protector that fits within a tire and provides mechanical protection to the inner tube against tire strikes. Embodiments may include an inner region adapted to support an inner tube installed around a rim of a wheel. Additionally, embodiments may include an outer region adapted for insertion within and against the rim lip of the rim which provide protection to the inner tube responsive to the wheel striking an object. As such, embodiments may be positioned between the rim and inner tube in a manner that dulls an edge of the rim lip and, thereby, provides protection to the inner tube when compressed against the otherwise sharp edges of the rim lip.
