Abstract: A method for manufacture of a pressure sensing mat comprising the steps of: (a) preparing two conductive layers, each conductive layer comprising an array of conducting strips mounted upon a substrate arranged in a parallel fashion, wherein the conducting strips of the first conductive layer are oriented perpendicularly in relation to the conducting strips of the second conductive layer; (b) for each conductive layer, connecting each of the conducting strips to a communication line; (c) sandwiching a compressible layer between the two conductive layers; and (d) performing a pressure reading standardization test to the mat.

Abstract: A resting body support, such as a mattress or an encasement for a resting body support, comprising a sensor layer is disclosed which may incorporate a mattress adjustment system. The system may comprise at least one pressure detection mat comprising a plurality of sensors arranged in a matrix and at least one processor configured to monitor a plurality of pressure values detected by each of said sensors; and at least one active mattress comprising a plurality of cells, the cells being controlled by an inflation control unit that is connected to said processor, and operable to individually adjust the level of inflation of said plurality of cells based on said plurality of pressure values.

Abstract: A pressure wound prevention system operable to prompt at least one caregiver to reposition a subject at risk of developing pressure wounds. A pressure detection apparatus comprising a plurality of sensors monitors pressure exerted upon the subject by a surface. A processor is operable to interpret and analyze data from the sensors and a notification mechanism such as a display, an alert, alarm or the like is provided to notify a caregiver when the subject requires repositioning.
