    Abstract: A multispeed winch having a drum about which a rope or the like may be wound and a drive shaft extending through the drum which is rotatable by a winch handle. Gear trains located within the drum provide two gear ratios between the shaft and the drum. The desired gear ratio is dependent on the direction in which the handle is turned to rotate the shaft. A third, direct drive ratio is achieved by an arrangement which directly connects the winch handle to the drum.
