Patent number: 10717800Abstract: The latex polymer compositions of the present invention exhibit latent crosslinking properties. Latent crosslinking in the polymers takes advantage of the fast interaction between the anionic latex charge and the cationic charge associated with polyfunctional amine crosslinkers. Once the latex is coated onto a substrate, the volatile base evaporates and the groups react to form a crosslinked coating with improved wash-off properties.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 2015Date of Patent: July 21, 2020Assignee: Ennis Paint, Inc.Inventors: Haibo Li, Kevin Newell, Jeremy Cheek

Patent number: 10450475Abstract: Disclosed are aqueous coating compositions containing an anionically stabilized polymer, one or more polyfunctional amines acting as crosslinking agents, and a volatile base. Coating compositions can further include one or more additional copolymers, which may or may not be anionically stabilized, and/or additional additives, including pigments, defoamers, pigment dispersing agents, thickeners, surfactants, and combinations thereof. By incorporating one or more polyfunctional amines, such as those comprising recurring units derived from the reaction of one tri-glycidyl moiety and a single di-, or tri-functional amino monomer, or a combination of mono/bi, mono/tri, mono/tetra, bi/bi, bi/tri, bi/tetra, tri/tri, tri/tetra, and tetra/tetra functional amino monomers with a bi- or tri-glycidyl moiety, water wash-off resistance of the coating compositions which comprise paint formulations, can be increased.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 2017Date of Patent: October 22, 2019Assignee: Ennis Paint, Inc.Inventors: Kevin Newell, Haibo Li, Jeremy Cheek

Publication number: 20190144684Abstract: This invention provides a convenient method of forming and applying a thermoplastic material for roadway markings, comprising: obtaining individual components of a thermoplastic composite material suitable for roadway markings; mixing and heating the individual components to produce a fully compounded form of the thermoplastic composite material; solidifying and prilling the fully compounded form of the thermoplastic composite material to produce a plurality of thermoplastic prills; on a marking vehicle or mobile apparatus, introducing the thermoplastic prills to an on-board melter to produce a liquid phase of the thermoplastic prills; and applying the liquid phase of the thermoplastic prills to a roadway, thereby marking the roadway. Compositions and systems are also described. Surprisingly, prills melt in approximately half the time as the powder/granular form. Also, the melter can be operated at lower temperature, leading to less discoloration of material.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 11, 2019Publication date: May 16, 2019Applicant: Ennis Paint, Inc.Inventors: Glen Alan Martyn, Scott Nelson Coke

Patent number: 10246571Abstract: Polyfunctional amine structures exhibiting at least one hydrophobic moiety selected from the group consisting of; hydrophobic epoxides, hydrophobic glycidyl ethers and hydrophobic (meth)acrylates are described which provide crosslinking capabilities for latex polymer compositions. These crosslinkers not only exhibit latent crosslinking properties but also improved hydrophobicity when compared with existing latex formulations. Latent crosslinking provides advantages associated with fast interactions between the anionic latex charge and the cationic charge associated with these hydrophobically modified polyfunctional amine crosslinkers. Once the latex is coated onto a substrate, the volatile base evaporates and the groups react to form a crosslinked coating with both improved hydrophobic and wash-off properties.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 2015Date of Patent: April 2, 2019Assignee: Ennis Paint, Inc.Inventor: Haibo Li

Patent number: 9796873Abstract: Linear polyfunctional polyglycidyl amine oligomeric and/or polymeric structures exhibiting at least two primary amines are described, which provide crosslinking capabilities for latex paint compositions. These crosslinkers not only exhibit latent crosslinking properties but also improve scrub resistance when compared with existing latex formulations. Once the latex is coated onto a substrate, the volatile base evaporates and the groups react to form a crosslinked coating with improved scrub resistant properties.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 2016Date of Patent: October 24, 2017Assignee: Ennis Paint, Inc.Inventor: Jiali Cai

Patent number: 6679650Abstract: The present invention is directed to an improved thermoplastic pavement marking composition system that comprises a pavement surface that is light in color (white or off-white). A first marking stripe is applied and adheres to the top of the pavement surface. This first marking stripe has a thickness of at least about 40 mils to about 110 mils, and comprises a solidified thermoplastic resin composition. The solidified resin composition comprising a black pigment. A second marking stripe is applied and adheres to the surface of the first marking stripe, the second marking stripe having a thickness of at least 40 mils to about 750 mils or more. It is narrower than said first marking stripe and also comprises a solidified thermoplastic resin composition. The thermoplastic resin composition of the second marking stripe is comprised of a pigment that visibly contrasts with the first marking stripe.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 2002Date of Patent: January 20, 2004Assignee: Ennis Paint, Inc.Inventors: Jerry Britt, Darrell Thompson
