Abstract: Various methods and apparatus relating to three-dimensional battery structures and methods of manufacturing them are disclosed and claimed. In certain embodiments, a three-dimensional battery comprises a plurality of non-laminar, three-dimensional electrodes including a plurality of cathodes and a plurality of silicon anodes; and an electrolyte solution in fluid contact with the plurality of electrodes, wherein the electrolyte solution comprises a selected one of lithium (bis)trifluoromethanesulfonimide (LiTFSI), LiClO4, LiCF3SO3, and LiBOB. In certain embodiments, a three-dimensional battery comprises a plurality of electrodes including a plurality of cathodes and a plurality of silicon anodes, wherein either the plurality of cathodes or the plurality of silicon anodes are non-laminar, three-dimensional electrodes; and an electrolyte solution in fluid contact with the plurality of electrodes, wherein the electrolyte solution comprises a salt selected from LiTFSI, LiClO4, LiCF3SO3, and LiBOB.
