Abstract: Techniques and systems to reduce deflection of a riser extending from an offshore platform. The riser may include a flow guide. The flow guide may receive a fluid. The flow guide may also include one or more outlets that are configured to transmit the fluid. This transmission of the fluid by the one or more outlets may counteract currents or other factors to mitigate deflection in the riser.

Abstract: Techniques and systems to provide additional holding ability to a subsea wellhead system. A device includes an auxiliary frame that may be coupled to an outer portion of a BOP frame that encloses at least a portion of a BOP. The auxiliary frame may also house a plurality of accumulators that may be used to provide pressurized fluid to the BOP.

Abstract: Techniques and systems to reduce deflection of a riser extending from offshore platform. A riser may include an outer enclosure. This outer enclosure may be coupled to a current deflector. The current deflector is configured to generate a lift on the riser in response to a fluid flowing across the current deflector. This lift that is generated by the current deflector may counteract currents or other factors to mitigate deflection in the riser.
Abstract: Techniques and systems to reduce deflection of a riser extending from an offshore platform. A system may include a riser restraint device configured to be coupled to riser of an offshore platform. The system may also include a tether configured to be coupled to the riser restraint device. The system may further include a ratcheting system configured to be coupled to the tether, wherein the riser restraint device is configured to resist movement of the riser via selective retraction and extension of the tether from the ratcheting system.
Abstract: Techniques and methods to reduce downtime in an offshore platform, such as an offshore semi-submersible drilling rig or drillship. Through the use of one or more movable platforms in a moon pool area, work on a riser string passing through the moon pool area may be performed without exposing workers directly to the open sea below. Accordingly, the use of the one or more movable platforms in the moon pool area may provide protected access to the riser string during, for example, harsh weather conditions.

Abstract: An offshore support system comprises an offshore structure having a platform supported by one or more legs. The system further comprises a mat structure having a mat, and a clamp configured engage at least one leg of the offshore structure. The clamp is movable into and out of engagement with the leg to connect and release the mat to and from the offshore structure.

Abstract: A device for use in removing and installing an inline component from a drill string that is depending downward over a deck. The device has an elongate member with a flange adapted to abut the deck and support the elongate member in a substantially upright orientation, and an engagement member on the elongate member adapted to rotably engage the inline component.
Abstract: An apparatus for testing the structural integrity of a hand rail structure. The hand rail having a plurality of substantially horizontal parallel rail members. The apparatus has an elongate lever arm and a mounting portion on the lever arm. The mounting portion is sized to span at least two rail members. A receptacle on the mounting portion opposite the lever arm receives one of the rail members and vertically supports the lever arm and mounting portion. A force is applied through the lever arm and transmitted to the hand rail. The force is measured by a torque wrench on the lever arm.

Abstract: A mobile offshore drilling unit includes a hull member having an opening of predetermined size for receiving a separately fabricated, interchangeable, rig block, which further includes a draw works, a drilling floor, a diesel driver, an electric generator, a derrick, and at least one each of a mud pump, mud tank, a fuel tank, and a drilling water tank. The method of constructing such a unit includes constructing the hull member at a marine shipyard and fabricating the interchangeable rig block at a remote location. The rig block is constructed with the main deck having a drilling floor and mounting a draw works thereon; constructing a machinery deck with a diesel driver, an electric generator, and at least one mud pump; and constructing a tank deck with at least one each of a fuel tank and a water tank.
