Patent number: 4707076Abstract: Curable compositions having at least one ethylenically unsaturated monoene, a polyene and a curing initiator are disclosed for use with optical fibers. The monoene and polyene components may be substituted with organo functional compounds to selectively vary the properties of the cured compositions.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 1985Date of Patent: November 17, 1987Assignee: Ensign-Bickford Industries, Inc.Inventors: Bolesh J. Skutnik, Harry L. Brielmann, Jr.

Patent number: 4607573Abstract: A fuse having two juxtaposed coextensive tubular housing layers is provided with a reactive material deposited within the inner tube, which inner tube is elongated or stretched before forming the outer tubular layer. In the method of manufacture, the inner tubular member is provided with a reactive material, primarily along its inner surface, thereafter stretched to provide the desired inner tube dimensions with the desired reactive material core load per unit length, the stretched tube is then provided with an outer tubular covering.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 1984Date of Patent: August 26, 1986Assignee: Ensign-Bickford Industries, Inc.Inventors: Gary R. Thureson, Ernest L. Gladden

Patent number: 4564759Abstract: A corona discharge device including a pair of electrically conductive electrodes arranged in spaced electrically insulated relationship with one of the electrodes comprised of a plurality of juxtaposed conductive members supported for individual longitudinal movement toward and away from the other electrode. Each individual conductive member can be identical to each other conductive member and can be provided with longitudinally offset end portions facing the other electrode, with the juxtaposed conductive members having alternating directions for the offset end portions and with the lower end of each end portion enclosed by an insulator.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 1983Date of Patent: January 14, 1986Assignee: Ensign-Bickford Industries, Inc.Inventor: Andreas Tietje

Patent number: 4564405Abstract: The formation of two crystalline forms of 2,6-bis (picrylamino)-3,5 dinitropyridine is accomplished by a purification method wherein needle-shaped crystals of 2,6-bis (picrylamino)-3,5 dinitropyridine are dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide to form an adduct compound. Dissociating the adduct compound forms different crystalline structures of 2,6-bis (picrylamino)-3,5 dinitropyridine having improved properties.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 1984Date of Patent: January 14, 1986Assignee: Ensign-Bickford Industries, Inc.Inventor: Robert G. Pallanck

Patent number: 4556795Abstract: A corona discharge device includes a roll formed of a conductive material and a plurality of segments mounted on a support and arranged in spaced relation from the surface of the roll in an alignment generally parallel to the roll's rotational axis. Each segment includes a hollow insulator having an outer surface adapted to be disposed adjacent to said roll and a wall extending away therefrom. The conductive body is disposed within said insulator and in an opposed relation to said outer surface. The conductive means is coupled to the conductive body and extends outwardly from said insulator for being coupled to said support means for movement of said segment away from said roll. An insulating material can be used to fill the remaining portion of said insulator and to surround said conductive means.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 1983Date of Patent: December 3, 1985Assignee: Ensign-Bickford Industries, Inc.Inventor: Andreas Tietje

Patent number: 4511209Abstract: Compositions with improved optical qualities, based on highly fluorinated monofunctional acrylates, are cured for use in a wide range of optical articles. The preferred components of the composition are (1) a highly fluorinated monofunctional acrylate; (2) a trifunctional or higher acrylate that serves as a crosslinking agent; (3) a mono or poly-functional thiol that functions as a synergist; and (4) a photoinitiator such as an ultraviolet (UV) initiator. These components can be varied relative to one another over a wide range, but the fluoroacrylate must always be the major component. Where the fluoroacrylate is a solid at room temperature, a small amount of solvent like di-isobutyl ketone or methylene chloride can be added.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 1984Date of Patent: April 16, 1985Assignee: Ensign-Bickford Industries, Inc.Inventor: Bolesh J. Skutnik
