  • Patent number: 11613060
Abstract: A planetary extruder for producing and processing polymers includes a degassing section. The extruder includes a housing and a bushing arranged therein. The bushing has an internal toothing with a pitch diameter and a root circle. An externally toothed central spindle is arranged within the housing. Planetary spindles rotate about the central spindle between the central spindle and the bushing. A heat transfer fluid is guided through fluid channels which extend helically along an outer surface of the bushing and guide the heat transfer fluid axially. A degassing opening is provided to which a negative pressure is applied for degassing. A minimum radial thickness (t) of the bushing between the root circle of the internal toothing on an inside of the bushing and a bottom of the fluid channels on an outside of the bushing is selected based on the pitch diameter (d) of the internal toothing.

  • Patent number: 11186011
Abstract: A method for producing thermally crosslinkable polymers in a planetary roller extruder is presented. The planetary roller extruder has a filling part and a compounding part made of a roller cylinder region that comprises at least two, preferably at least three coupled roller cylinders, planetary spindles of which are driven by a common central spindle. The polymers are supplied in a plasticized state. The filling part is supplied with a vacuum. The flow temperatures of the central spindle and the at least two roller cylinders under a vacuum are set such that the polymers to be degassed remain in the plasticized state. One or more liquids, such as thermal crosslinkers, crosslinking accelerators, dye solutions, or dye dispersions, are metered to the plasticized polymers downstream of the vacuum degassing, preferably in a continuous manner. Finally, the resulting mixture is directly supplied to a coating assembly.

  • Patent number: 10131760
Abstract: A method of devulcanizing crosslinked rubber uses a planetary roller extruder with a central spindle, planetary spindles, a housing, and a feed part. The method includes feeding vulcanized rubber through the feed part into the housing, rotating the central spindle about its rotational axis and thereby causing the planetary spindles to rotate about their rotational axes and revolve about the central spindle. This generates mechanical and thermal stress on the vulcanized rubber by kneading and/or crushing of the vulcanized rubber, breaking or destroying the molecular chains or bonds of the vulcanized rubber. The method further includes at least one of (A) adding particles of the vulcanized rubber eccentrically to the center of the planetary roller extruder module between the planetary spindles and (B) mechanically pressing particles of the vulcanized rubber between the planetary spindles with a crammer feeder.

  • Patent number: 9926426
Abstract: Method of devulcanizing rubber and/or elastomers without the need for a chemical agent, in which method the vulcanized rubber and/or elastomers are fed into a planetary roller extruder, which planetary roller extruder has a housing, a central spindle, and at least one group of planetary spindles. Mechanical and thermal stress is generated on the vulcanized rubber and/or elastomers by kneading and/or crushing the vulcanized rubber and/or elastomers using the central spindle and the planetary spindles. The mechanical and thermal stress alone is sufficient to break or destroy the molecular chains or bonds of the vulcanized rubber and/or elastomers.

  • Patent number: 9193106
Abstract: Method for producing a blend of a plastic first material and a wood or other plant second material in a planetary roller extrusion arrangement. The method involves feeding particles of the second material into a feed, which particles of the second material have a maximum diameter of 1 mm. Particles of the first material are fed into a melting device and liquefied into a plastic melt. The plastic melt is fed into a pump. Particles of the second material are moved into a planetary roller part of the extrusion arrangement, while the plastic melt is also pumped in. The particles of the second material are then blended with the plastic melt to form a blend that is at least 60% by weight of the second material.
