Abstract: A thin film vessel useable in gravimetric methods for measuring the total dissolved solids or total solids in a liquid sample, or the moisture content of a solid sample. The vessel includes a main body formed of a thin walled polymeric material having a melting temperature greater than 180° C. The main body comprises an open top edge and a sealed bottom edge which define an inner cavity configured to hold a volume of liquid, and indicia applied to a portion of the main body, wherein the indicia include a tare weight of the vessel.

Abstract: A one-piece solid phase extraction article to be used in solid phase extraction analysis, a filtration funnel comprising the one piece solid phase extraction article, and a method of use of the article. The article, device and method provide for improved analysis of hexane extractable material by eliminating the standard use of polar solvents to pre-condition the sorbent materials. The one-piece solid phase extraction article comprises water wettable monomeric phase type sorptive material embedded within a porous matrix. The water wettable monolithic polymeric sorptive material may be a hydrophilic polymeric gel, such as functionalized C-18 sorbent material, and the porous matrix may be fibrous matric, such as a glass fiber. The one-piece solid phase extraction article may further comprise one or more pre-filtration layers which do not contain the sorptive particles.

Abstract: An apparatus and method of determining trace levels of materials, such as oil and grease, which are present in liquids, such as water. The device and method allow the material to be extracted from the liquid by filtration, the material to be removed from the filter by a low boiling point solvent, and excess water to be removed from the solvent, by a single device. The apparatus is characterized by a tube having a manifold extending from the tube, with a valve which directs entry into the tubes which comprise the manifold. A crossover tube and an inner tube direct vacuum to allow a single vacuum connection to pull the liquid, and subsequently the solvent, through the apparatus. A drying cartridge is attached to a tube of the manifold to eliminate excess liquid from the solvent during the normal operation of the device.
