Abstract: The present invention includes a device and associated analytical method to use for the sensitive detection and accurate, rapid determination of acrylamide in food substances. The present invention also relates to the use of a kit device and associated analytical method in which a user can quickly and easily ascertain the amount of acrylamide in food substances with ease and in any location, including a non-laboratory environment. Such detection device and method may be comprised of a sample collection area on which a sample of food, after being mixed in a solution, is placed for example on the substrate of a biochip that includes an enzyme that along with a co-enzyme or form of energy or catalyst, facilitates the conversion of either acrylamide to acrylonitrile or the conversion of acrylamide to ammonia.
Abstract: The present invention includes a transparent surfboard or wave-riding vehicle. The present invention also includes a transparent surfboard with an optional embedded locater for large aquatic animals and an alarm for the wave rider, specifically prepared to identify animals such as sharks, and an optional shark-resistant signal generator that transmits an interference signal to interrupt the electrical impulses used by aquatic animals for electrical sense. More specifically these aquatic animals are greater than three feet in length (such as a shark) and within approximately a one-hundred foot radius of the surfboard with regard to the sensory perception of a shark, thus diverting or distracting it from any one in the water in the vicinity of the device. The transparency of the surfboard or wave-riding vehicle is achieved by manufacturing the surfboard blank with transparent super microcellular polymer foams and coating the blank with a clear, transparent polymer.
Abstract: Compositions for enhanced UV-protective agents that increase immuno-responsiveness by providing cytoprotective additives for mammalian skin while also providing avoidance from endocrine disrupting agents are described. A composition comprising:(a) at least one inorganic sun-blocking agent, (b) optionally at least one non-endocrine disrupting sunscreen agent, (c) at least one non-endocrine disrupting emollient with or mixtures thereof and (d) an optional oil component comprising a carrier oil, preferably an essential oil of a naturally occurring substance and a method of making this and other versions of similar compositions is detailed. The compositions areas shown to be capable of protecting skin and mammalian health from the harmful effects of radiation including ultraviolet light or sunlight by inhibiting the loss of skin immunocompetency and eliminating any endocrine disrupting agents normally utilized as sunscreen agents.
Abstract: A system, method, and computer-based logic flow for a web-enabled tool that allows simultaneous intelligent searching, knowledge management based problem solving, valuation, and modeling of intellectual property and scientific information are described herein. The system accesses databases of intellectual property and scientific information. Additionally, the computer-based logic flow utilizes valuation techniques based on the Black-Sholes Options Pricing model or discounted cash flow methods.
