Patents Assigned to Equitable Bag Co., Inc.
  • Patent number: 5374232
Abstract: A method of making a gift bag which contains a pair of ribbon loops in the neck which, when pulled in opposite directions, form a cluster at the top of the bag about which the ribbons can be tied to form a fancy package. The method of in-line production of such gift bags includes laying a pair of ribbons near opposite edges of a sheet and folding the edges to form flaps over the ribbon; folding the sheet longitudinally at the middle, punching spaced-apart holes in the sheet-enfolded flaps at intervals corresponding to the width of the bag; guiding the ribbons into registry with the punched holes; sealing along a transverse zone passing through the middle of the punched hole and cutting along the transverse zone to separate the bags.

  • Patent number: 5226858
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing bags interconnected at their open ends by forming transverse seals across a flattened longitudinal tube of film material and utilizing a cutting die to cut a transverse weakened line across the tube intermediate the transverse seals and to cut a pair of handle openings, one on each side of the transverse weakened line.

  • Patent number: 5176286
Abstract: A bag dispenser for a plurality of bags in which the bags are retained on a tray which has an apertured, fold-back flap at one end. The tray, the bag pack and the fold-back flap are enclosed within an overwrap. When the portion of the overwrap covering the aperture is removed, bags can be dispensed one at a time through the aperture.

  • Patent number: 4931033
Abstract: A method of making plastic bags in an in-line production stream having hand holes reinforced by double ply plastic material in which the molecular orientation of the plastic material extends across the bags and generally parallel to the upper ends of the bags. The method includes forming a longitudinal gusset along the upper ends of the bags in the machine direction of the plastic extrusion, slitting the inner fold line of the gusset, sealing the inner slit ends longitudinally to the adjacent front and back walls of the bags, forming transverse seals to close the side edges of the bags and separating the bags along the transverse seals.

  • Patent number: 4493110
Abstract: This invention is a novel plastic bag and method of making it with a handle that extends upward through a folded-back top compartment, and the end of a front of the bag has a pocket with a similar folded-over top edge of the back of the bag. The bags of this invention are made from a continuous sheet, preferably a roll of plastic web that has its opposite side edges folded inwardly along opposite edges of the web to make the folded edges at the front and back sides of the bag. The web is then folded along its longitudinal center region with a gusset that forms the bottom of each bag. The bags have surfaces that are welded together to join areas of the front and of the back where necessary to weld plastic areas together, and certain areas do not weld where the plastic sheet is coated on areas that prevent heat applied to the plastic from fusing together.

  • Patent number: 4018142
Abstract: This specification describes an improved method for making a container that has a square bag construction at its lower end and an upper end constructed as a folding box. The method produces such a container with a flexible handle that is permanently attached to the container in contrast with the prior art where economical construction requires that the user attach a separate handle to the container. With this invention, changes in the reinforcing of the upper panels of the container and a novel sequence in the manufacturing steps make the provision of a permanently attached handle both economical and practical. The product has novel features of construction that make it possible to manufacture the product on automatic machines which make conventional shopping bags and with limited alterations in the standard shopping bag machines.
