  • Patent number: 5667181
Abstract: A trapezium and like structure spring metal hanger clip includes two upwardly extending legs which are interconnected at their lower ends by a short bottom section. One leg at its top includes a generally horizontal arm extending toward the top of the other leg and adapted to be positioned through a hole in the top of the other leg. The horizontal arm is generally channel shape in sectional configuration and the upper edge includes serrations adapted to engage the upper edge of the hole in the top of the other leg, to prevent the clip from being sprung open without the other leg moving upwardly with respect to the arm. The clip may be sprung open in one form and the horizontal arm inserted through the trapezium and like structure and into the hole at the top of the other leg. In this manner both legs are supported by the horizontal arm. In another form, the clip is already open. A nut is snapped into place between the legs at the lower end and held against vertical movement and rotation.

  • Patent number: 5667177
Abstract: A snap spring clip supports conduit, cables, and the like from a structure and has a C-shape body with one end of the body cooperating with the other end to form a restricted opening into which such conduit, cables and the like may be snapped. The one end of the body may be formed with a reversely flared lip while the other end is folded back on itself to form a U-shape clasp, the outer leg of the clasp being in the form of a more narrow finger extending generally parallel and adjacent the inner leg. The finger is somewhat longer than the inner leg and extends midway between barbs struck from each edge of the inner leg. The U-shape clasp is formed with a flattened bulb fold providing sufficient area to push the clip to a locking position with the finger extending through a hole. Once in the hole, because of the configuration of the fold, and the relative size of the hole and finger width, the clip is locked in place.

  • Patent number: 5653078
Abstract: In steel reinforced concrete structures, a hanging system uses an embeddment anchor with a head or washer positioned behind the second layer of reinforcing from the load being supported. An adjustable length tubular opening or shank extends from the head or washer to the form which forms the surface from which the load is to be supported. In the tubular embodiment, two sealed tube sections telescope with respect to each other for adjustment to the required distance and are held to the head or washer by a removable plastic threaded fastener. After the concrete is poured, the fastener is removed and a threaded stud such as a rod is threaded into the head or washer through the tube. The tube is then sealed. In another embodiment, an internally threaded sleeve is adjusted on a threaded shank to obtain the variable distance from the washer or head to the form.

  • Patent number: 5619263
Abstract: The box support system uses a channel shape one piece slotted strut and a twist spring snap clip. The strut ends are bent opposite the legs of the channel to form spring separable fingers which snap over and lock behind the bulb on the stem of a Tee bar. The slots of the strut are centered transversely providing two equal shelves on each side. The slots are positioned asymmetrically longitudinally so that a box may be supported anywhere between spaced Tee bars. If it will not fit because of unslotted areas, it will fit if the strut test is turned end-for-end. The spring snap clip includes a V-shape body forming a pointed nose. The two legs of the body have shouldered necked portions adjacent outwardly extending feet which terminate in upwardly extending toe tab. Opposite shoulders at the neck include oppositely angled spring locking talons. Box assembly is obtained by inserting the clip through the center knockout in the back of a box with the toe tabs entering two smaller holes on each side of the knockout.

  • Patent number: 5611142
Abstract: Extruded conductive metal stock has a number of grooves along one long side of the sectional configuration of the stock which extend almost to the other long side. The grooves form parallel fingers. The stock is transversely cut to form machining stock blocks and the fingers become square posts projecting from a bar. The stock blocks may be cut between the posts to form smaller blocks with fewer fingers or posts. The blocks are then loaded on a machining center pallet with the fingers facing radially outwardly. The pallet is indexed through the machining center to form the square in section fingers into round posts, using a center flush hollow mill. The diameter of the mill and the spacing of the fingers is selected to avoid secondary milling. The posts are axially drilled to form a barrel wall and one or more set screw holes are drilled and tapped in the wall. If a flat pad pressure connector is formed, the posts are cut to form the pad prior to machining, and the axial drilling is omitted.

  • Patent number: 5608965
Abstract: Elongated generally rectangular in-section conductive metal bar stock is formed by extrusion to form a post type electrical bus connector. The shorter dimension is approximately the diameter of the posts to be formed, while the longer dimension is approximately the height of the posts plus the thickness of the bus or bar from which the posts will project. The narrow end forming the bus has a triangular ridge. The bar stock is cut-to-length dictated by the number of posts to form blocks which are then loaded into specialized pallets of a machining center. The machining center is the type having at lest two pallets, one being loaded while the other is indexed with respect to the tool spindle. The machining center also includes an automatic tool changer. The machining center mills the posts with a hollow center flush mill, drills the hole in the posts and forms tapped holes followed by deburring. The bar stock may have extruded L-shape flats, one of which forms a pad for a compression type connector.

  • Patent number: 5582228
Abstract: An exothermic welding apparatus and method uses a crucible which can be used with a variety of exothermic weld metal material volumes to produce welds of different sizes while maintaining the desired diameter to height ratio for each volume of exothermic material. In one embodiment, the crucible includes a double or two stage cavity. The crucible includes a somewhat smaller lower stage which reduces the diameter for smaller volumes. This lower stage may have two disk seats to isolate the two stages from the tap hole. A disk seat is provided for a larger disk between the two stages. The crucible may include a volume of exothermic material in the smaller lower chamber, the larger upper chamber, or a combination of both. In a triple stage embodiment, a wider variety of exothermic material volumes or masses may be accommodated, all while maintaining the desired diameter to height ratio for each charge. Although the desired ratio is approximately one, the ratio range should be maintained from about 0.5 to about 1.

  • Patent number: 5490888
Abstract: The invention provides a new and improved process and exothermic reaction mixture for use in the process for producing molten weld metal. The molten weld metal is used in joining one non-ferrous metal piece with at least one other metal piece. The process and exothermic reaction mixture have distinct advantages over the prior art. These advantages include a higher filler metal yield, reduction of odor, and a higher quality corrosion resistant weld. These advantages are accomplished by a process wherein a reactant mixture is provided which has a reducing agent, a filler metal which does not react with any of the compounds of the mixture, and two or more metallic compounds which are exothermically reduced by the reducing agent. The metallic compounds subsequently form a compound, with the reducing agent, having a high heat of formation which provides an exothermic reaction with sufficient heat to melt the filler metal.
