Patent number: 5062903Abstract: The invention provides a method and means of producing weld metal for use in joining two or more metallic pieces. The method includes the steps of providing a novel mixture of reactants comprising a reducing agent, a metallic compound which is exothermically reduced by the reducing agent, and a filler metal that does not react with the metallic compound. The mixture of reactants is then exothermically reacted so as to form the weld metal for joining the metallic pieces. At least about 90 percent by weight of the weld metal is produced by the filler metal and at least about 90 percent by weight of the weld metal has a chemical composition substantially similar to that of at least one of the metallic pieces being joined.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 1990Date of Patent: November 5, 1991Assignee: Erico Products, Inc,Inventors: Denis A. Bronan, James E. Whetsel

Patent number: 4592688Abstract: A hanger assembly for securing insulation or refractory linings to walls includes a circular stud which includes a flattened locking section of relatively short axial extent forming laterally projecting lugs, a somewhat less flattened anti-rotation section of substantial axial extent inwardly adjacent the locking section, and an unflattened or rotation section of short axial extent inwardly adjacent the anti-rotation section, whereby a quarter-turn retaining washer may be positioned over the stud to the rotation section, rotated a quarter turn and then moved outwardly along the anti-rotation section to engage and lock against the underside of the locking section.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 1983Date of Patent: June 3, 1986Assignee: Erico Products, Inc.Inventor: James W. Kramer

Patent number: 4526437Abstract: A ground rod electrical connection bracket (10) includes a bent sheet metal receiving member (12), the end (13) of which are bent into opposed semi-cylindrical shapes and provided with screw threads (18). The ends (13) are provided with a rim (19) and by pinching the ends, a ring (14) may be positioned behind the rim around the semi-cylindrical ends. A corrosion resistant bolt (17) engages the screw threads to clamp a connecting wire (16) against the ground rod (15). The connecting wire is seated between the ground rod and an acute corner (22) of the receiving member.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 1983Date of Patent: July 2, 1985Assignee: Erico Products, Inc.Inventor: Anton M. Kies

Patent number: 4526496Abstract: A tapered thread cutting machine includes a multi-part rotary machining head, one part including a through-recess and another being a separable interior wear plate. Interacting chaser holders are mounted in the recess and include angled V-shaped slots in which block type chasers may be secured between clamps and locating pins enabling the chasers to be removed and replaced without removing the holders from the recess. The holders are driven by a linear cam for opening and closing movement through a thrust block mounted on a guide rod, such thrust block being fitted in a slot in one holder but otherwise not secured thereto so that binding in the opening and closing of tool holders is minimized.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 1982Date of Patent: July 2, 1985Assignee: Erico Products, Inc.Inventors: Anton M. Kies, Mark V. Samas

Patent number: 4429440Abstract: A clip for supporting conduit and the like against channels, wire, rod, bar and like structural elements is formed of a metal strip of uniform width throughout its length. The ends of the strip are bent along parallel bend lines extending transversely of the strip at an acute angle to one edge of the strip to form legs extending symmetrically but in opposite directions. The area between the bend lines is provided with an extruded internally threaded aperture for a clamping fastener and opposite corners of the strip are notched to engage the structural element.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 1982Date of Patent: February 7, 1984Assignee: Erico Products, Inc.Inventors: Raymond S. Laughlin, Edward J. Lynch, Jr.

Patent number: 4241285Abstract: An electronically controlled power supply is adaptable upon throwing a single mode changing switch for shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) and stud welding. The power transformer and control circuitry of a stick welding power supply are, according to the invention, adapted with facility for higher power output, relative to that required for stick welding, for a relatively short timed duration suitable for stud welding. Safety shut down features improve safe use of the power supply, particularly during stud welding, and protect against transformer overload.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 1978Date of Patent: December 23, 1980Assignee: Erico Products, Inc.Inventors: Kenneth A. Golonka, Sr., Gary Spiegelberg

Patent number: 4214144Abstract: A part of hard, weldable material which has been through drilled and tapped is sealed by stud welding a stud thereover to form a fluid-tight article which is used to facilitate the connecting of other parts. The threads are protected during stud welding by a conductive refractory insert in the tapped through bore thereby preventing molten metal or the like from entering the same. A magnetic jig serves to hold the insert and as an electrical connector of the insert to the part to permit the proper arc to be drawn during stud welding.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 1978Date of Patent: July 22, 1980Assignee: Erico Products, Inc.Inventor: Gary R. Spiegelberg

Patent number: 4088293Abstract: A hold-down and retaining clip for a lay-in light fixture secures the fixture to the T-bar frame of the suspended ceiling against both vertical and lateral movement. The main body portion of the clip has an L-shape configuration adapted to lie substantially adjacent the stem in one bottom flange of the T-bar. The upper vertical leg of the clip includes an extended center portion which is formed in an enlarged bend extending over the top of the stem with substantial clearance and terminates in an upwardly rebent edge adapted to engage the far side of the stem. The shorter lateral portions of the vertical leg have their upper edges bent toward the stem and are adapted to engage the near side of the stem at a slightly higher elevation than the terminal edge on the far side of the stem.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1976Date of Patent: May 9, 1978Assignee: Erico Products, Inc.Inventor: Martin F. Delmore

Patent number: 4043893Abstract: An improved aluminum electrode hanger contact and method of making the same, which includes a longitudinal hole drilled in the end of the hanger. In one embodiment, a slot or slots are cut in such bar into the hole. Tin-coated copper inserts are inserted in the slot or slots with the inner ends thereof projecting into the hole and the outer ends closely underlying or projecting from the end of the hanger. In other embodiments, circular passages are provided transversely of the drilled hole and inserts in the form of tin-coated copper rod or rods are inserted in the passages. Superheated molten metal is permitted to flow into the hole filling the same, such molten metal preferably being obtained by the ignition of an aluminothermic welding composition. When the molten metal solidifies, the inserts are secured to the hanger, thus providing a low cost and significantly improved voltage drop contact between the aluminum hanger and a conductor.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 1976Date of Patent: August 23, 1977Assignee: Erico Products, Inc.Inventor: Leonard Gelfand
