Abstract: The present invention relates to a printing mechanism for printing bar codes on pressure-sensitive labels adhering to a carrier tape. The printing mechanism includes a print wheel on which a plurality of type rings rotatable about a common axis relatively to each other are mounted. The carrier tape with the pressure-sensitive labels adhering thereto is pressed with the aid of a pressure roller against the print wheel. To enable the bar codes to be printed to be read without error with electrooptical reading devices, high requirements are made of the printing quality of the bar codes as regards uniformity and contrast. To meet these requirements the type rings comprise a cylindrical peripheral surface on which bar code types of resilient material are formed with which an inking means is in contact; the pressure roller is rotatable about an axis extending parallel to the axis of the type rings and consists of non-resilient material.
Abstract: This invention relates to a belt printing mechanism with parallel mounted endless type belts which carry on their exterior surface print types. These type belts extend around an adjustment wheel and a plurality of star wheels where the star wheels are rotatable about a shaft where each star wheel has four corners. A catch mechanism is held under tension against the star wheels and holds these in predetermined detent positions to prevent free rotation of the star wheels. When printing multi-character symbols, the selected print types of adjacent type belts must be brought into predetermined printing positions. In order to assure a clean print copy, care must be taken that the print types rest in the exact same line height. In order to accomplish this, the catch mechanism for each star wheel is provided with a spring tongue which touches at least two separated points of the perimeter of its associated star wheel between two adjacent corners thereof.

Abstract: In an apparatus for printing, dispensing and applying pressure-sensitive labels adhering to a carrier tape said carrier tape is drawn by a feed means stepwise about a peel edge which is formed by a roller mounted on a shaft and at which the pressure-sensitive labels are detached from the carrier tape. To achieve a clean peeling of the pressure-sensitive labels the peel edge must form as sharp an edge as possible which means that the rollers must have the smallest possible diameter and consequently must be mounted on a very thin shaft.To enable rollers of small diameter to be used and nevertheless minimize the effects of the frictional moment between rollers and shaft, the shaft carrying the rollers is supported between its ends.
Abstract: A counting or printing mechanism for consecutive counting or numbering, in which a number or printing wheel is provided for each numerical place and the number or printing wheels are mounted on a common shaft. The number or printing wheels are turned by advancing elements which are connected loosely but so as to transmit force and designed to deflect one another. These advancing elements may, for example, be pawls disposed on an inner ring or coupling discs disposed on a side surface of the number or printing wheels.
Abstract: Apparatus for printing and applying pressure-sensitive labels carried on a release liner of supporting material where the label stock advancement mechanism is a feed wheel which advances the release liner. A brake prevents movement of the label stock during application of a label. A ratchet and pawl arrangement incrementally advances the feed wheel each time a hand lever is returned to its rest position. At the same time, a second ratchet and pawl arrangement is effective to remove the brake during the incremental label stock advancement. The feed and brake release ratchets are preferably integrally connected to opposite sides of the feed wheel. Mechanisms are also provided for ensuring removal of the brake prior to incremental label stock advancement and for manually latching the brake in its released position during loading of label stock in the apparatus.
Abstract: A hand appliance for issuing or applying self-adhering labels which are stuck on a carrier strip is disclosed. The appliance has a feeding mechanism which withdraws the carrier strip to feed one label at a time. The feeding mechanism has a winding core on to which the carrier strip is wound and which is rotatable about a journal fixed at one end to a housing wall. The winding core is held for axial displacement on a boss which drives the winding core by means of a projection engaging a groove extending obliquely of a surface line of the boss such that the boss shifts the winding core under the tension of the carrier strip in the direction of the wall of the housing on which the journal is fixed to thereby maintain said winding core within the appliance when in operation and facilitate its removal when desired.

Abstract: A label strip with easily removable self-adhesive labels adhering in series to one side of a carrier strip for use in label printing and dispensing apparatuses which are equipped with a pull-off device gradually feeding the labels, the improvement wherein the carrier strip is continuous with respect to the length and width thereof, the carrier strip covering at least the greater part of the self-adhesive layer on the labels and a continuous backing strip disposed adjacent the side of the carrier strip opposite the one side thereof in a plane separate from and parallel to the carrier strip, the backing strip being bonded with the combination of the carrier strip and the self-adhesive labels.
