  • Patent number: 5243747
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for putting in place, on a projecting rim of a motor vehicle body element, a U-section profile (1) comprising a metal reinforcement sheathed with a resilient material, this reinforcement being substantially undeformable over time under the stress of the covering material.According to the invention, a length of profile (1) is used which is substantially equal to that of the body element (2) to be equipped, a predetermined and possibly marked part of the profile is initially fastened in position at a predetermined, possibly marked, location (4) of the rim of the body element and, subsequently, with the aid of a vibrating flexible-headed mallet (7) driven in an alternating striking movement, the profile is applied continuously against the rim of the body element starting from said predetermined location (4) as far as a first end of the profile and then, again starting from said predetermined location, as far as the other end of the profile.

  • Patent number: 5226258
Abstract: Watertight section for the frame of a movable window of a vehicle, namely an automobile, formed from a resilient material (6) in which is embedded a metal frame (5) includes two adjoining inverted U-shaped parts, one (1) known as a clip, intended to cap a protruding rim (3) of the window frame, while the second U-shaped part (4) known as a runner, is intended to guide and receive the peripheral portion of the movable window in its closed position. The frame (5) of the U-shaped arm of the runner that is intended to be placed facing the exterior of the vehicle juts out laterally from the resilient material and curves toward the outside of this arm, while at the base of this same arm, the resilient material forms a boss (9) below the base of the U, so that a C-shaped ornament (8) can be fastened at right angles onto the section by means of a clip on the above mentioned boss (9) and on the curved protruding part (11) of the frame.

  • Patent number: 4926600
Abstract: The invention relates to a section forming a gripper for an automobile gasket, this section being required to cap a projecting element (2) of the body and comprising a longitudinal metal core (4) of U-shaped cross-section, sheathed in a plastic (5) which, on the faces of the U opposite one another, has projecting parts (9, 10) intended for coming into contact with the lateral faces of the said projecting element (2) of the body.According to the invention, on at least one of the said faces of the U a projecting part is formed by a tubular element (10), inside which is seated at least one longitudinal reinforcing member (11) capable of exerting a constant counterpressure on the inner face of the wall of the said tubular element (10) required to come in contact, by means of its outer face, with the said projecting element (2) of the body.

  • Patent number: 4535563
Abstract: The seal comprises a first portion mounted to at least a part of the inner peripheral edge of the window opening. The first portion includes a flexible body, a first magnetic element received in the flexible body, and a flexible sealing member. A second portion is mounted to at least a part of the outer peripheral edge of the window in a position to face the first portion and to contact the flexible sealing member when the window is closed. The second portion includes a casing member, and a second magnetic element received in the casing member. Flocking is connected to at least one of the first and second portions. The flocking is positioned between the contacting area of said first and second portions when said window is closed. The flocking reduces friction between the first and second portions to facilitate sliding of the window. At least one of the first and second magnetic elements is a permanent magnet.

  • Patent number: 4416951
Abstract: The invention concerns extruded sealing strips of a resilient material with a center core or reinforcement in the form of gripping means. Such sealing strips are typically used around automobile doors or door frames. The body of the sealing strip has at least a partial fabric covering which is of a light and economical structure. This material is coated with a vinyl plastisol which advantageously is microporous. The coated material is then embossed and finally adhesively bonded, with an adhesive based on saturated polyurethane, which is not reactive in solution. Flocking may be applied prior to or after the bonding to further improve the esthetic appearance of the assembly.

  • Patent number: 4374880
Abstract: A sealing strip, for use, for example, in sealing a gap between a vehicle's door and its surrounding framework, particularly along that part of its length which is curved. The sealing strip has between its U-shaped mounting portion and its tubular sealing portion a reinforcing strip which is integrally moulded with the sealing and prevents deformation of the sealing portion along that part of the sealing strip which is curved.

  • Patent number: 4183778
Abstract: Process and mold for joining two lengths of elongated composite sealing strips, for use on a vehicle body, in end-to-end relationship at a predetermined angle, each composite sealing strip being made up of a gripping portion to be mounted on the body and extrudedly made of compact plastics material, and of a sealing portion extrudedly made of cellular plastics material, the portions extending lengthwise of one another to form the sealing strips. The strip lengths are first cut crosswise at equal angles suitable to produce the aforesaid predetermined angle when the ends are in the aforesaid end-to-end relationship and the strip lengths are placed end-to-end with like portions in alignment. Welding plastics material is then injected over at least two of the aligned and like portions at the abutted ends and between the ends thereof whereby to weld the strip lengths together in one single operation. Thereafter, the injected plastics material is allowed to set.
