  • Patent number: 5515343
Abstract: The invention relates to electro-acoustic transducers comprising a flexible nd sealed transmitting shell referred to as flextensional transducers. A transducer according to the invention comprises one or more electro-acoustic drivers, e.g., a stack of piezoelectric plates 1a, 1b . . . 1n, located inside a flexible and sealed shell. Each piezo-electric driver comprises, at both its ends, a counter-mass coupled mechanically and acoustically with the stack and the ends of the shell by means of an axial threaded rod and two nuts screwed on the ends of the rod. The mass of the two counter-masses and the dimensions of the stack are determined so that the fundamental frequency of the axial oscillations of this mechanical assembly will be close to the natural frequency of the bending oscillations of the shell. An application of the invention is the construction of sonar transmitters.

  • Patent number: 5388545
Abstract: An air venting device is provided in a container with a sealed closure sucted to uncontrolled oscillations and designed to be filled by water. The air venting device includes an outside tube with a water presence indicator and an isolating valve to close off the outside tube in response to the water presence indicator and an inside tube with two open ends located at two different points in the container. One of the ends of the inside tube is fitted with a closure flap to close off the opening of the tube once the water in the container reaches a predetermined level through the action of a float. This end allows the air to enter even when the container is subjected to oscillations and so long as it is not completely full. • Patent number: 5193392
Abstract: A monoaxial differential accelerometer with frequency output, includes a thin monolithic piezoelectric sensitive plate (10) in which plane a sensitive axis (X) is located. The plate (10) comprises two rectilinear slits (15, 15') parallel with the sensitive axis (X) and defining between them two zones of vibration aligned along the sensitive axis (X) and identically sensitive to the temperature variations. Each vibration zone is located between two electrodes (3, 4, 3, 4') to form resonators (20, 21) whose frequency variations are added for an acceleration directed along the sensitive axis (X) and whose the frequency variations are subtracted for an acceleration directed in a plane perpendicular to the sensitive axis (X). The resonators (20, 21) are inserted in the circuits of two oscillators (73, 74) whose beat frequency constitutes the output signal of the differential accelerometer.

  • Patent number: 4350323
Abstract: This invention generally relates to a cable recovery device for use on bo a surface ship. The invention compensates for excessive tensions arising in cables carrying submerged loads which are caused by the swell of the ocean acting on the ship, and controls the tension at which the cable is wound. The invention includes a cable winding drum which is rotationally driven by a variable-speed motor, a loop-shaped cable passageway which circumscribes the drum which forms a loop of cable of varying length, and a means for sensing the length of said cable loop and for automatically controlling the speed of the variable speed motor in response thereto. The loop of cable of varying length compensates for excessive cable tensions resulting from the swell of the ship, and allows the cable to be wound around the drum at a desired uniform tension.
