Abstract: A surgical stapling system comprising a shaft, an end effector, an unspent staple cartridge including staples, an articulation joint, a drive system, a control system, a drive member, a locking system, and a rotatable member is disclosed. The end effector comprises a first iaw and a second iaw movable relative to the first iaw. The drive system is configured to generate a low actuation rate rotary motion during a first operating mode and a high actuation rate rotary motion during a second operating mode. The control system comprises a user interface configured to allow a user to selectively switch between the first and second operating modes. The locking system prevents the advancement of the drive member if the unspent staple cartridge is not correctly seated in the end effector. The rotatable member is operably coupled with the drive system and is in operable engagement with the drive member.

Abstract: An apparatus includes a shaft assembly and an end effector. The shaft assembly includes a first coupling member and a second coupling member. The first coupling member and the second coupling member are configured to flex toward each other from a first position to a second position. The first coupling member and the second coupling member define a pivot axis in the first position. The end effector includes an ultrasonic blade and a clamp arm. The clamp arm is configured to couple or decouple with the shaft assembly when the first coupling member and the second coupling member are in the second position. The clamp arm is configured to pivot toward and away the ultrasonic blade about the pivot axis when the first coupling member and the second coupling member are in the first position.

Abstract: A surgical tool includes a drive housing and an elongate shaft extending from the drive housing. A wrist couples an end effector to the elongate shaft and includes a distal clevis having a first axle that rotatably mounts the end effector to the distal clevis, and a proximal clevis coupled to the elongate shaft and having a second axle that rotatably mounts the distal clevis to the proximal clevis. A plurality of drive cables extend between the drive housing and the end effector, and movement of the drive cables causes the end effector to articulate about a first pivot axis extending through the first axle. A power axle cable extending from the drive housing and mounted to the distal clevis such that movement of the power axle cable correspondingly pivots the end effector about a second pivot axis at the second axle.
